Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Please don't tell this to my Yellow Tang. He's been swimming through a daily Lanthanum Phosphate cloud in my sump for a few months. Do you have a link for the story?
I did come across a story about a retailer in Cleveland who stressed a number of tangs in an apparently fish-only holding system...
Boomer,
This is the first time I've seen a reference to using a sub-micron filter to remove the precipitate. I think sand filters can get down to 20 microns, DE down to 2 or 3, and filter bags down to one, but how is sub-micron filtration accomplished?
Thanks,
Bob
I'm not sure where you are located, but look for an Asian food market. There's one near me in East Hanover, a few doors down from Hanover Pet (a.k.a. Aquatic Visions). You can usually get large packages of 50 sheets for 5 or 6 dollars. I recommend getting the smaller packages as I find the nori...
Not sure why you did this, but here's a good reason...
Returning from the weekend at MACNA I found that my old black sea cucumber had pooped sand all over my 3"x5" Alien Eye Chalice and killed off 2/3rds of it.
RFD4,
You missed out on a free rotifer culture at MACNA!
I once bought a live rotifer culture on eBay from this guy:

We'll never know, but if they weren't properly maintained maybe they wouldn't have been fixed under warranty.
I've been running my oldest Tunze (a 6000 bought used) on a Tunze controller for four or five years now. I had to clean it once, about three years ago.
I'll stick with my Tunzes. The Vortech demos are neat at MACNAs, but it seems to me that over half of the used Vortechs offered for sale these days have just had their wet side repaired/replaced under warranty. My LFS has ordered a number of replacement wet sides for customers. Interesting how...
Dave,
I won a Digital Aquatics (http://www.digitalaquatics.com/saltwater/)ReefKeeper Lite (Level 1) at MACNA. So far I like it - the system in nice and modular and you can add more modules as you want to expand the capabilities. They have a trade-in upgrade path to the Elite head from the Lite...
Besides Calcium, you also need to test for Alkalinity, as the two are interrelated. Here's a great article by Randy Holmes-Farley:
http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/nov2002/chem.htm
You need to plot a point on his graph, based on the calcium and alk test readings, and take appropriate...
Are there any documented negative effects for Lanthanum Chloride? I don't believe the existing products have any warnings. I also found it a bit odd that the Knop article didn't mention any existing products - I wonder if he recommends not using them.
Before buying a chiller, you should consider just air-conditioning the room the tank is in. It is cheaper, and it will keep both the tank and you cooler.
