I think you are correct. I am torn as I can get about 20lbs of Red Sea salt for $8. I gave the IO Reef Crystals a shot but didn't like it and was going to back to regular IO but for $8 I may give it a shot.
I know there was a post comparing the different brands of salt but can't seem to find it. Can someone point me to it or re-post.
I have a good deal on Red Sea max but wanted to check it out before buying.

Sirfragalot, I hear you. I won't even let my wife wipe down the canopy. If she claims its to dusty I wipe it down along with the glass.
This way if something goes wrong only have myself to blame, which is better than arguing with the wife.

I was thinking the same thing but I was more concerned about the K3's turning on after maintenance.
I never had them start in reverse, knock wood, fist hitting head.
I don't have a QT setup but think you would want new water not old water. At least its what I would do if had a QT.
You would provide trace elements, etc. that were used up in the QT and DT tanks.
I always thought 1" / gallon was a fresh water rule and saltwater was 1"/ 5 gallon.
But Sid brings up a good question. How important is this rule?
I would not include inverts here just fish.
