Def copper and silica are more of a problem than the moly, I don't even know how bad a high level would be for your tank. Probably worse than a low level though

I'd try to stick with glass if you can , you will scratch the acrylic over time. Really hard to avoid, I had 2 acrylic tanks over the years. Both got a few scratches

Could be a lack of oxygen. Try putting in a airstone when the skimmer is off

If you put the low indicator on bottom of the top off tank to kill the pump it sounds like a pain. If you have it filled all the way and indicator on bottom, won't it still flood the tank if the pump stays on? If you put it mid way and water falls below it then the pump won't kick on even though...
