As far as fish goes start here:

Just about every one of those fish would be fine and some in multiples. The only one I would avoid is the catalina just because is needs much cooler temps than a reef and a 10g is tough to...
Can you run a 10g tank with that light and the hob filter? Absolutely, NikkiT did it for years. You just have to be really carefull what you put in the tank and make sure you are religious on a gallon a week water change. She ran is basically as a fish only with inverts. You might be able to...
Take a look an anthias maybe? Many varieties in some amzing colors, not aggressive, reef safe, don't need sand, not prone to jump (yet all fish can jump) and they generally eat smaller pieces of food.
Not even close to a candy, I would try and get him out. We had one that was all green that we suspected of getting a few fish. We had to pull the 45g apart to get him and it was a PIA. Not all pistols are safe.
Do you know what kind of pistol is it or what it looks like?
Pistols can be annoying as all heck to get out as they can hide in the rock or in the sand. We have had to leave rocks in buckets overnight to get them out before.

If it is just some algae and gunk then vinegar will work just fine. If it is really stubborn then you can look at magic clean from hydor or muriatic. I find with Vortechs that vinegar is just fine and you probably don't want to go too much more than that.
SPS do have feeder tentacles which is what you are witnessing. They can be quite powerful in their sting so just give it some room and it will be fine.
Everyone has a love hate relationship with hermits. They can be a great CUC but all you need is one to turn on you and boom you are in trouble. Problem is with so many species you never really know what you are going to get. I have always stuck with blue legged and scarlet reefs, but even...
