Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
If your tank is not reef ready and I am sure you don't want to drill it at this point, you can look for an overflow box. They hang on the back of the tank and will act as an overflow. Some people love them, some people have had flooding issues. Honestly I have never used one so I can't really...
I would not worry about it. I know some people who have ordered from them and I would not hesitate. They basically worked themselves up to be almost equals with Live Aquaria. I don't think I have ever read anything bad about them.
Switching salts can be tricky and the effects looked like they played out on your corals. When you switch salts you want to go slow, either mix it is with your old salt or do smaller say 5g water changes at a time. Skimmer going crazy should not effect your corals. Good luck with the tank...
My choice would be some butterflies:

Then I would look at the centropyge angels:

And one of my all time favorites the marine betta...
Ok so I am going to throw some stuff up here, let me know what you guys think. I have some holes in here so I am going to need those filled in.
Rapid Led Kit:
Solderless build with one dimmable driver: $145

Did you change water or salt for this water change that set the skimmer off? How long was the skimmer going nuts for? I have had my skimmer overflow back into my sump before and it did not cause coral death. I would tell you normally to do a water change with what you have now and then go get...
The reason we are looking to upgrade is that we are going to keep the tank for a long time. The corals we have in there right now are very simple, but it would be nice to have a little reef that I could do anything in. As Brian alluded to, the heat in the PCs is annoying and also the fact you...
I am looking around now and that is what I am finding out. Rapid LED sells a kit for the biocube 14 http://www.rapidled.com/biocube-14/ so I might drop them a line to see if it would fit in the JBJ 12 or if it is too tight of a fit.
I want dimmability because leds, especially crees, in a 12g...
Hawk I had the same issue with a container that I had for my generator that I never used after I bought it. I took it to a gas station and they disposed of it properly.
Just want to ask out there, with nano tuners now shut down, does anyone know where to get the LED upgrade kit for a 12g JBJ hood? We are not DIY people, if someone wants to help us, I am cool with that but this is not something I would do on my own. Any input would be appreciated.
We did not add phyto, our water just turned green so it looks like phyto. The article says you can add it which would make them more nutrious for your fish and corals, but it is not a requirment. I will try and get some photos of our cultures tonight.
We used Dr. Tims (same theory as Biospira) and have been very happy with it. When we were breaking down and setting up new tanks or setting up tanks after our crash, we used it. Our tanks were cycled within a day and we have had no issues since. We were very happy with it and will use it in the...
Vacations are the scourge of the reef keeper. I have had my parents look after the tank once, and local reefers twice (Thanks Greg and Greg). I know one reefer on here set up a webcam so he could watch his tank while he was away.
