Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
As promised here are the new pics. We did not really get any new corals for the 20g at MACNA. We got some nice neon green clove that is coming out, just now fully out yet. However, our big score was four bangaii cardinals. They are all tank raised and doing very well so far. Originally I bought...
You might want to look into something like biospira that jump starts a cycle. If you have all cured liverock and have no livestock in there to start the ammonia spike which will seed the bacteria, you might not see the cycle. With something like biospira you are just adding the bacteria. I got a...
Welcome to the club and good luck with the tank.
I have a pair of black and white clowns in a 12 gallon and they are fine. I don't have any other fish in there, but the clowns are a nice size for that tank.
The coral magazine that is out right now (unless they have a new one) has a HUGE article on sea squirts and their care (they are on the cover). If you can't find it let me know, we have it.
One way or another you are going to have to get the fish out either to sell them or put them in quarantine to add other fish first. The rule of thumb has been to add the most passive fish first and then add the more aggressive ones, this gives the passive ones time to setup a territory first...
We were looking for a 8 gallon container to mix saltwater and found a garbage can at Wegmans for like 5 bucks. A lot of places were doing back to school sales and garbage cans were all over the place. Works great for us.
We are going to leave it alone, we noticed as the polyps opened only like two tips did not have polyps. So far so good, the polyps are fully extended and they are bright blue which is cool. We checked for bubble and this piece had none, they got it in on thursday and we bought it on friday.
Certain fish (especially tangs) will attack a mirrored image of themselves and can easily stress themselves out leading to not so much fun stuff (ich). You can buy a background to put in the back of your tank which some people do because it can be easily taken out and cleaned. Some people like a...
We just picked up a beautiful gogonian from trop (The sale was still going on). We have it in the middle of the tank under a 250w MH and have two koralia 2s on either side of it to provide flow. So far so good as the polyps have full extension. We noticed though that the tip have no polyps and...
For the powder is it 1/2 teaspoon for 20g mixed in 8 ounces of fresh water. We did 3/4 of a teaspoon in 12 ounces for the the 30 g and you dose when the light are off. We are starting with every other day dosing, and you go from there depending on your levels. I will keep you updated.
If you read the description it keep both your PH and alk levels up so it is kind of an all in one product. We were looking for ways to simplify the process and this fit the bill.
We just picked up a Brightwell product:

We got the powdered form though. Came highly recommended...
I use Rods Reef which is a blend of just about everything.

My shrimp like the bigger meatier pieces.
Also, PE mysis is a very popular brand of food that we also add.
You need a special breeding tank to raise shrimp, ours have been pregnant constantly for like 9 months and they just release the eggs (which the fish love).
I always feel like I am doing something wrong when I feed my shrimp mysis shrimp but they really do like it. I don't think lettuce would do anything for them, mine like to pull out the "chunks" in the Rods food.
I love my Pheonix 14k bulb. If you search through "equipment conversations" I put up comparison pictures of a 14k bulb and a 10k bulb. The blue is really crisp.
