First they are naturally found on the sand bed, this is important because the byssal opening is not as pronounced because they don't attach the same way. On a sand bed other clams...
Here are my two clams, I stuck my hand there so you can get an idea with 7.5 inches span against the derasa the maxima is probably only 6-7 inches total.
Derasa is about 10 years old and the maxima is 9.
I believe that when they are small they need phyto more than when they get larger. I have used ESV's freeze dried with good results there are a number of foods out there that have similar composition. They make little hammocks for maxima or others that live mostly on rocks. Brightwell...
