I would like to suggest don't be super cheap and use tap. I don't know how many nasties will actually get obsorbed but better zero then X amount. Just IMHO it is better to use RO from the start (OK I didn't the first time and I regret it to this day. :-[)

Yes I know that list, and I have seen the lists for food type fish, but not if there is one for fish, corals, inverts ect. Anyway I would like us to at least think about it when we buy fish and whatnot.

Filter socks did a good job on controlling the bubble problem for me. Not the noise problem though.

Nice job on the hood and sump. Is the line off the return pump feeding the skimmer or just back that way. I am thinking of doing something similar, my system is making a bit of noise still so thinking of somthing like that.

I saw that fixture but the bulbs are actually HM right? That was what I understood the HID to be when I looked it up. At first I thought it was LED but then MH. Honestly bit confused. ???

Great looking fish. Tangs are certainly big eaters but they are fun fish too.

If it is your sand then you know that you don't have any problems like copper. Just make sure you don't add any livestock right away because you could release ammonia and other baddies I think.

What have you been adding to the water to get your calcium so high? Do you have corals in the tank at this point? IMHO on a 30G tank a calcium reactor might be overkill especially if you don't have a tank full of SPS. Why don't you give us a complete recap on your tank? And include a couple...
