For what it is worth I like the LHS better then the right. If you can break up the table thing going on keep the left side it is quite nice.

Never will be easy. For what it is worth I have at least that flow going through my sump without any issues. The water just cruises over the top without much movement on the rubble and sand below.

I tossed out that idea before. There was some banter back and forth, I went with cutting boards though because I wasn't sure if eggcrate would stand up to 190lbs of sharp rock. I concure though the idea of putting rock directly on the glass scared me.
