If you can find the black mesh it looks a lot better on the tank than the clear. Places that carry lots of pond stuff usually have it or can get it.

You need unrestricted flow out of the gate valve to allow the skimmer to function properly. If its underwater, the outflow rate changes and will drastically reduce the skimmer's function. Def raise it up.

I do this all the time to get my acros to start growing again or get them to branch at a certain point. Have been doing it for years and it definitely works. Seems to work on acros more than other corals.

The effect of Caulerpa vs gfo on PO4 is no comparison. It was the GFO no question. You can run it like you are, but the problem is if its not in a reactor it starts to clump, loses its effectiveness, and you have to replace it more often. The stuff is expensive so most run the reactor.

+2, and just plan on this process taking a long time (months) before all the PO4 leaches out of your rock. And change the GFO frequently.
