Bought a NEW light, ballast is bad. Need advice on how to handle this.

I bought this light..

Unpacked it, set it up, plugged it in, and.....the T5's are great. As well are the LED's and the fan is moving some air. But one of the MH (250w) never came on and the other one did. So, I swapped out the ballasts and there it was...BAD ballast. I just got the light last night. I emailed him last night through the Ebay listing. I also emailed him again this morning the same way. He is in Cali, so I understand not hearing from him last night and even first thing this morning. I am expecting a return message from him some time today. When do you guys think I should start contacting the Ebay Resolution Center. I would much rather him and I take care of it ourselves. Just not sure how long I should wait without jeopardizing the warranty. Also, now only half of the tank has MH lighting. Had to move my SPS to the other side. (Thanks Downbeach for that pointer).

Make sure all correspondence is through e-bay, so they have a record of it. It shouldn't be a big problem to resolve, it it's an external ballast, all they have to do is send a replacement. If you don't hear from him today, send him another message as a follow up. If they still don't respond I'd go to e-bay, and ask if you should be instituting the "buyer protection" plan.

It looks like a few other sales for that unit (from that seller) had damaged parts and the few that I looked at showed the seller sending replacement parts.

I'd give it a day or two for them to respond and if not go from there. I don't think they want negative comments though and will likely take care of it.

Welcome to the world of Odyssea. When you do get ahold of the seller, I would try to get a extra ballast just to have on hand for when the next one goes. A friend had the same unit about 6 months and had to replace both ballast's during that time. He has since trashed the light. As far as Ebay goes they will only get involved if you have made multiple attempts to contact over a number of days. Good Luck

Just got in touch with him. He is sending a NEW ballast tonight. I am aware of the ballast issues. However, from what I understand the new ballasts are capable of handling the draw. The old ones couldn't and would burn up in 6-10 months. They say the issues have been resoloved as this light is the newest model. BUT, ya' never know!!!! Anyway, the seller is handling this very well. Sending another one without a question.
