GE water filtration systems

You could us RO only....dependent on the rejection rate, will get your water hopefully to a couple TDS.

Most prefer to purify even further by running the water through a DI unit, which should bring to the water to zero TDS.

EDIT TO ADD….just read the info on the unit you are considering. If you have not purchased yet, you might wish to consider another unit. That thing only does 11 gpd….that’s slooooow! I have no idea what the rejection rate is on that unit, but I believe the 75 gpd has the highest at something like 98%. Also, for that price, or a few bucks more, you can find a unit that puts out a bit more water.

Im actually going to be going this route soon. A very simplified explanation of this would be you can use it for the tank if you buy a DI filter. Basically you will use the RO for drinking water and when you want tank water you will be able to turn a valve that will divert the already RO water into the DI filterfor which can then be used in your tank.

Brian, (Thermosts) actually has a setup like this and was great in helping me figure out what I am going to do.

I agree with Paul. There are much better complete RO/DI units available for around the same price and can do up to 75 or 150 GPD. 11 GPD is way too slow unless you only have a nano tank.

You could do what AJ was talking about, but you will need to factor in how much RO/DI you will need at a time. That one aftershock linked has a storage container that looks to only be around 3-5 gallons (just guessing based on size compared to the canisters). If you need to make 25 gallons at a time... you're going to have an issue since that filter only does 11 GPD and after using up the 5 gallons in the tank your going to be on super-slow-mo.

If you plan to do this, I'd say make sure you have a very large storage tank that you can use to feed your DI filter when you need to make water for your tank.

I work at one of those big box stores. You don't want to buy this unit. Your better off spending a few bucks more and getting a higher quality unit. AWI makes one thats perfect for splitting between the fridge/icemaker and DI for the tank. I think its under $200 and much better then the unit your looking at.

I also work at one of those stores everyday I look and laugh at these systems. Especially since I work the plumbing department. I beleve the filters only go down to 5 microns.

thanks a lot guys. my tank right now is only a 40 breeder and i live close enough to red sand to just buy water weekly from there. upgrading to a 110 tho so now i need a water maker! thanks again for the help
