How should I deal with a recent clam death?

Pretty sure my maxima died at some point today. Seemed ok yesterday. The clam is covered in about 7 nassarius snails. Should I assume it's dead (been closed about 12+ hours) first noticed this morning. Should I pull it out (could it cause a crash?) or leave it to feed the bacteria and CUC?

When the nassarius and the hermits move in it is over for your clam

Pull it now. If you run carbon change it now and every day for three days. Crank you skimmer up too. Do some water changes too. Maybe 2 or 3 WCs 10% each.

This may be overkill but a decent size clam is pretty meaty

figured it was done. Pulled it out and ... well ... it's dead. The snails and my peppermint were PISSED that I stole their food. Gonna switch out the carbon and do a small WC if I have enough water made up. The clam was only 2.5-3". Now starts the investigation. What did I do wrong. Don't want to repeat my mistake. Early thoughts
i added a bunch of frags. Not sure that would do enough to my bio-load to throw things outta whack enough to kill the clam but I thought it was relevant. Also with the frags came a few days in a row with crazy glue activity in the tank.

What were you feeding it? Smaller clams usually need a supplement of a good Phyto product. Here's a little reading:

Any of your fish nipping at its mantle? Any possibility of Pyramid Snails?

Feeding was occasional kent zooplex or phytoplex when I would spot feed coral I'd squirt a bit around the clam. Also BRS reef chili occasionally.
Also I inspected the mantle and saw no evidence of any pests.
