Kalkwasser

I'm not sure if this is an advanced topic so feel free to move it. I have been dosing BRS two part for the past year with success. My numbers stay relatively stable. I have been thinking of switching to kalk for ease of use. I think dosing one chemical would be easier than dosing two...

Originally I was looking at kalk stirrers. I am now thinking about rigging up a jug and using and airline with a drip valve to slowly drip kalk all day. I'm fairly new to dosing and would like opinions and suggestions from experienced dosers.

Kalk is a good suplement, but used by itself, may not keep up with your demand, since it will be limited by your evaporation. I use it my top off, in conjunction with my two part, since it utilizes some of the CO2 in my system, and keeps my pH in line.

My tank is mostly LPS so my demand is not terrible. I was thinking instead of going through my top off, dripping it 24/7 eliminating waiting for evaporation. I could install an airline tube with a drip valve a few inches from the bottom of a clear plastic jug. Just wondering if this would work?

I started doing this per Terry and Anthony about a month ago. I use a 5 gallon bucket with an airlne tube drilled into it. The airline tube has a value on the end. It seems to be doing well lots more purple on the rocks. I saw Dave and Allquatics had a jug for sale that would do the job. That was a few weeks ago. Forgot the brand.

So not to hijack the thread. But with my mixed reef I am dosing 2 part kent, soon to be BRS. At 15 ml per day to keep steady the alk and Ca. I am going to Disney in march with the family and have a house sitter to add to off. I was thinking of Kalc for the top off while I would be gone for the 6 days....thoughts?

I am always hesitant to try something new when I am not around to observe the results.
