Pretty cool discovery. So lionfish can escape to low salinity waters, AND pack a deadly venom? Those suckers will take over the world some day!
Yes amazing that a sixth grader made this discovery. These fish are very resilient survivors. It is good that Florida has banned the import of these fish and encourages the collection of them in their local waters.
This is unbelievable! I actually judged science fairs at local junior high schools back in the 90's. Most were down right ridiculous, like volcanos with the old sodium bicarbonate with vinegar reaction with a little fizz. But this one would have blown me out of the water. I've got to believe the parents directed this research, but still unbelieveable. Good for that little girl.
Unfortunately these voracious eaters are found off the coast of NJ. With this research, I'd be concerned with the intercoastal and brackish marsh areas of NJ.
