My pH has dropped as well as my kH. Are they proportional?

My ph has always been around 8-8.2. Just checked it and it was around 7. Also, my kH went from 9 to 7dkh. I started with kalk in my ATO about a month ago, 1 tsp per gallon in my ATO. Dont think thats the cause. Here are my numbers...

temp 79'
SG 1.025
calc 520...higher than normal
ph 7....lower than usual
phos .05....better than before
No3 0...normal
amm 0...normal
kH 7dkh...lower than normal

Everything looks great all polyps are extended and fish are great. My algae growin on the walls has decreased, but I did add a Kole. Any ideas?

How are you measuring pH…..I’d first question whatever you are using to measure pH. At pH 7 you are looking at stuff dieing. So first verify you’ve got a good pH.


And as far as you low alk / high calc....they are a balancing act...the high calc will drive down the alk.

And as far as you low alk / high calc....they are a balancing act...the high calc will drive down the alk.

I'll check it again. I am measuring with API...probably the problem. Lemme check again....

OK...I am officially an IDIOT !!!! My pH is at 8.2. I must have used the wrong regent. Actually, I should have checked it again prior to posting this thread. Again, I would like reiterate the fact that I am an IDIOT. Thanks for allowing me publicly own this one!

And with only misusing the reagents, you’re just toying with idiothood. If you were an experienced idiot, like myself, you would have knee-jerk responded to that so-called low pH and dumped a ton of alk in the tank and maybe some sodium hydroxide and whatever else you could find, to raise the pH. That’s what a real idiot would do.

Caulk it up to experience.
