As a member of Project Aware, I often get emails regarding topics of marine conservation. I thought I'd share the latest one I received, in hopes that some of you will help out by submitting a petition submission.

Here's the email I received:

Dear George,

Sharks in the Coral Sea remain at risk under the draft plan for a new marine reserve. Please take a few seconds to protect Coral Sea sharks by 24 February.

The draft plan fails to protect threatened sharks, sea turtles, whales and many other marine animals at risk. Most of the reserve’s coral reefs are also left exposed to harmful activities.
But you can improve the draft plan. Wherever you live in the world, please take a moment to tell the Australian Government that as a diver you support improved protection for threatened sharks and reefs.
Under the current plan almost half of the marine reserve is open for shark fishing, and around 90 percent of the reefs are not fully protected. Does this fit your idea of a marine reserve? Shouldn’t a marine reserve protect wildlife from human impacts?
You have the power to make things better. The Australian Government will improve protection for sharks, reefs and other Coral Sea critters if enough of us tell them they have our support.
It only takes a few moments and could make a massive difference. Thanks on behalf of Coral Sea sharks and reefs!
Best regards,
David Roe

Project AWARE is a member of two groups working for greater protection of Australia’s unique marine life. The Protect Our Coral Sea group works to protect the Coral Sea, and the Save Our Marine Life group works to protect the unique marine life of south west Australia.

If this type of thing interests you, it wouldn't be a bad idea to join Project Aware and get notified of other similar projects. Most of the time, you can make a big difference just my making a few mouse clicks!
