Seahorses

So happy my new overflow box came in today brings me one step closer to my build
So let me show everyone what I have going on. I’m putting together a 55gal seahorse condominium just taking my time so it turns out right.
The first thing is when I picked it up it was in boxes n pieces I didn’t even know what I had , then I broke overflow box then basically ruined my refugium so I bought brand new one then tons of cleaning every little piece after soaking everything in fresh water and vinegar then my boss took my cabinet and stripped it then stained it and put 10 coats of poly. He also ordered seahorse handles for a nice touch ( I had no idea he was gonna do that ). My next step is to bring everything over to Motortrendz place so he can drill it and hook up plumbing.

So that’s where I’m at right now

Wow! That looks absolutely fantastic!! Looking forward to seeing it progress

Nice to see this thread coming along and providing some great info. Think this may justify a seahorse subsection imho.
That’s what I’m hoping for Our own seahorse thread. Not to say I’m not happy sharing fish / Fowler. Have to start somewhere but I’m sure this thread will take off

Dont worry guys there will be some more pics tomorrow. As long as I dont break the tank hahha jk. Im.not gonna let paulie touch anything. With his catchers mits for hands he just breaks everything.

Not familiar with seahorse illness / injury. Out in the wild I am sure they encounter rock so I would not think that was the cause.
What type of urchin did you have? Not sure if it was stun by it either.
Quick google search and it could be tail rot. To many articles to list google it and you will see them.
Good luck keep us posted.

My poor buddy

I looked up the meds for when I had the big ponies... may be outdated but recommended meds for infections were Triple sulfa, Neomycin, Furan 2 and Diamox (Diamox was hard to get but used for bubble). Said Neomycin and Furan 2 can be used together.
I don't know if you have any of those on hand but you should put in 10 gallon QT.
This information came for Seahorse.org from when it was a very active forum.

Agree. Treat for fungal. That site has plenty of good info.

Use a clear food container to scope him out.
You don't have to touch it and won't be exposed to air.

Arrrrgggghhhh.... came home to find one of my females died :frown:
Nitrates and Ammonia both 0
It could have been end of life since they don't live long. She was one of the big ones
Down to 5 and no babies yet... although one male looks a bit chubbier. He was hooking up with a female this morning.
Why oh why did I decide to do this?
