Things you dislike about the hobby?

The thing I hated most when I had my tank set up was just the lack of knowledge. It's funny that even experts can't agree on the right and wrong way to do things. The constant disagreement of which product is better or worse. Which salt is more balanced and better for your tank... The only way...

    Where to buy Acrylic

Worth a try for next time. I'm sure if the price is better it'll be worth the trip. I'm gonna see how this first frag tank comes out. I have every piece except the black overflow sheet. Once that comes in I'll get started. In the meantime i'm putting together a stand for this 36" frag tank and a...

Anyone try Motorizing a lift for their lighting?

WOW! i'm jealous .. that guys build is amazing! The ONLY thing I would change would be installing plugs on the ceiling cause that wire would drive me nuts. I didn't go past the page with the video so maybe he did. idk. Thanks for posting that.

Anyone try Motorizing a lift for their lighting?

Came across these motors for shades and blinds on windows but they're capable of lifting 35lbs. The larger one up to 105lbs. I think the AI Sols are 4.5-5lbs a piece... Maybe a couple of these guys would make a sweet motorized light fixture... who wants to try... and then let me know how it...

    Where to buy Acrylic

Yeah.. i'm not "back" 100%.. not yet anyway. What i'm doing is building a small frag tank so i can start getting back some of the corals i miss. This way when I get my dream tank in a year or two i'll have something to start it off with. I probably won't have the frag tank up until after the...

    coast to coast aquariums

Thought i had replied to this hours ago but the post isn't here... I'll try to remember what i said.. I spoke with Coast to Coast. And then i mentioned something about Marineland having a 250 gallon standard tank that was 60x36x27. Only 3 inches shy of your custom tank and i'm willing to bet...

    Where to buy Acrylic

There's a really good video on youtube.. 5 video's actually.. a tutorial. warning.. 1 of the videos is 25 minutes and 1 is 45 minutes.. the others are between 10-15 minutes. I watched all 5 (maybe 6) and it's well worth the "almost" 2 hours.

    Where to buy Acrylic

To anyone who's ordered acrylic online.. who do you use? I had placed an order with VIP plastics and had to cancel because after 14 days they still hadn't even started my cuts.. Just order from acrylic-shop.com but they were literally $60 more for the same cuts w/shipping plus they charged tax...

    coast to coast aquariums

I spoke to these guys a few weeks ago about a custom tank.. they're very good. A little expensive but you get what you pay for. The service is worth the extra money. Every other company I called seemed like they didn't even want to talk. I won't be ready for my tank for another year, at least...

Which led fixture do I go with....

I've been researching LED lighting like mad... it's one of the things that's changed most since i got out of the hobby 2 years ago and something i know very little about (but learning). Has anyone considered the spectrum of the light.. and not just the way it looks? Take a look at this blog...
