Re: Here's my 120
Hi Bax
I enjoyed following the prigress of your 120 and looking (with envy :)) at those beautiful corals and that Squammy clam. Also am following the discussions re your new plans. As one with a conservative approsch who uses the simplest of setups (due in part to limited...
Re: NJRC Clownfish Squishy Thing
Hmmm..... this beer swilling Squishy seems to have more color than mine. ??? Perhaps I'm mistreating my guy by keeping him sober
and letting him play with the Grandkids!!! :P

If its an all glass tank with no serious nicks on any of the silicone inside the tank, it should be good for a very long time...Just don't hit it with a hammer LOL :P

I agree with John re the Won units. I've had bad experiences with them. Also agree that several heaters be used to avoid the risk of one high wattage heater failing. The Ebo's have been reliable over the years.

Mlad makes a lot of very good points. My suggestions are first, to go with a T5 lighting system. Knowing your penchant for acquiring a variety of exotic (expensive?) pieces, why take any chances? The minimal clearance above the water AND CORALS, coupled with the heat retaining "ceiling"...

I believe you are referring to the Genicanthus Bellus angelfish. From all I've seen, they are safe to add to a reef. Like any fish, they should be well fed to keep them from potentially nipping at Corals/LR. There should also be a lot of hiding places in the tank as it may take some time...

Beautiful Fish...the Yellowtail Coris Wrasse is one of my all-time favorites. Just some info...this guy will grow to a solid 8+ inches with a nice thick body which means he is capable of knocking over both Corals and LR pretty easily. So give him lots of swimming space. Also, he will eat...
Hi
I've been using a Turboflotor 1000 on my reef tank with good success for several years now. I gravity feed it directly from one of the overflows in my tank using an inexpensive Fluval canister filter valve to regulate the flow. I keep the foaming water level at the top of the skimmer's body...
Oh poor Dirk. :( It hurts just thinking about it. :'(
If its any consolation, I think we've all learned from one tragedy or another.
Just a suggestion re the setup. You might want to place the canister return Vertically to get some flow across the lower part of the tank. You've more than...
Sorry Sub...It's no fun when that happens...I had a beautiful Neon Pseudo jump out of a similarly small opening when I stepped away from the tank for a minute. Didn't notice he was gone 'til the next day.

Phyl hit on a good point re the skimmer...If and When you upsize, you should get ALL of the RIGHT equipment UPFRONT!!! There
is no room for "It'll Do For Now" thinking which always leads to more work and very often, to a less than successful reef environment. This goes for everyone, but...

Doug's advice re Skimmer and Water Changes is right on. But, I know from experience that everyday living and the logistics of
making regular water changes on a consistent basis make doing so very difficult at best. In my case, RO/DI production and storage are Downstairs while the tank is...

I have the same feeling that you do since my Nano is located in my smallish home office and I always start "work" before the moonlights go off and the mains come on. I simply turn off the moons, go about my biz and wait for the mains to turn on. Hasn't hurt anything in the reef, so I...
Matt makes a good point as a number of requirements for each are different. Also, in my experience, water flow through small holes in tank dividers has always been less than I thought it would be.
