Guy is ripping me off for a skimmer on ebay but posting for sale items on RC?

Report to Ebay, and Visa. If you do not get your money back, can file with police and he will probably get internet fraud charges. I know its a bit harsh, but for one, you are probably not the first he has done that too nor will be the last. Secondly, you gotta look out for numero uno, yanno?

    Hairy Algae growing mad

Naso Tangs are really good at farming hair algae too. They can be a bit pricy depending on size, but a rather indespensible tang for a reef tank if doing minimal fish.

Negative Long term effects of Kalk

I prefer the 2 part Bionic and is what I recommend to my customers who do not have/want a reactor. Kalk has its benifits but IMO if you go kalk, might as well save up for a reactor. More money on the front end, a lot less headache all around, does the same thing.

Need help getting tank in the right direction

Catch extra food?? How much food do you put into the tank that you have to catch extra? A good rule to follow is all of your fish should eat all of their food in less then a minute and no food should hit the sand. I actually drop thawed out mysis into my tank 3-4 at a time. If they finish that...

Negative Long term effects of Kalk

Have your magnesium checked. Usually really high or really low calcium <and cannot get any higher> is related to a magnesium level that is askew.

Need help getting tank in the right direction

Here is what I would do. I would build a sump and get rid of the canister filter. Then I would vaccuum out all of the crushed coral and clean the rock off and put in about 1/2" of figi pink sand. should be about $20 per bag roughly. This will do 2 things. One it will get rid of the nitrate...

    Alkalinity ?

Buffers = baaad ju-ju. I have seen a lot of people do major crashes because of them. For example, your Ph is low. You add buffer and it becomes normal. Few days later, it is low again, but not quite as bad, you add buffer, it goes normal. Few days later, what ever was causing your Ph to be low...

Negative Long term effects of Kalk

I have seen people crash their tank 2 ways. One is from letting the magnesium go astray and the calcium precipitated out of the water <rare>. The other is they didnt pay attention to the Alkalinity <more common>. If you are worried about Kalk crashing, don't use it. Use the 2 part Bionic.

    Potentially stupid LR question

I would not pack your sump up with rock. It should not look like you have natural bio-balls in it. A couple of larger pieces is fine and a good idea though.

UV Sterilizers - Good or Bad?

Well, I talked to my boss today and this is his opinion. UV is great on any tank. What matters is how it is hooked up. Yes, on a reef tank, UV will kill the goodies in your tank, but it also kills the baddies. It is not like anyone with a reef tank doesn't supplement with Marine Snow or other...

UV Sterilizers - Good or Bad?

I have only seen them used in outdoor ponds and indoor fountains. Cant say I know anyone using one on a reef tank. I have heard of people using them on fish only tanks though.

Well, found out what it was from my boss. They are mini starfish wrapped around the stalks of the coral. He said if something like that is thriving, odds are it is a pest.

Questions about sand in a refug.

If you are looking to do a deep sand bed for filtering, that should be more then enough. I always do my deep sand bed in the sump and only use about 1/2" sand bed in the display, makes for easier cleaning of the tank without disturbing and stirring up nasty stuff.

Questions about sand in a refug.

The sand will be fine to use. If you want to speed up the cycle process, add a cupful of sand from your main tank and sprinkle it over the dead sand.

Friend has a Carribian Gragonian standard orange/red with same color polyps. I noticed today that it has these odd purple rings growing on one of them. Almost looks like a worm wrapped around the trunk. The other one does not have these. Anyone know if this is a parasite? If so, what kind of dip...

If you try it, please keep us updated with the findings on growth and coloration of the corals. I have not been able to find any info on this type of lighting solution and I think is very interesting.

are there any extremely low light macros?

Deep Water Gorgorian, common variety is usually orange or red stem with the tiny white or orange polyps. They are non-photosynthetic and need low light to prevent algae build up on them. They do require spot feeding since they do not produce food on their own. They are a fan type and grow nicely...

    Cleaning rocks

If your cureing the rock and it is not in an established tank just use a scrub brush. Off rock in an established tank use a syphon vaccuum that dumps into a bucket. Replace that water with fresh made water. Great habit for water change day.
