as far as the qt tank it would be a section of the sump with a glass peice all the way to the top rim of the sump so none of the sump water could get in even with the power off,it also would have a hob filter for the qt,i dont want to set up another tank in the room got way to many now 30 gal...

update got new skimmer its a used aqua ev-120 protien skimmer with a mag drive 5 pump for 150 shipped,i know its a little small for the 180 but its in my price range,maybe i could upgrade later,also it said i can use 3 dif pumps to increase skimming cap,this has got to be better then what i have...

thats where i was getting confused, so you only put salt in when you are doing water change,not to top it of,so when i top of the tank ,just put ro water right in tank right ,nothing else needed . thank you guys have been a great help so far,what would be better one pump to run everything or...
