This is a subject that comes up every so often on a thread some where. Unfortunately its usually for a bad reason. We sometimes forget the dangers of the different bacteria and poisons we are raising in our tanks.
Thanks for the reminder and a good checklist if we have an issue.
Mesh is best and easy to make. This is made from 1/4 mesh from BRS and screen parts from Lowes. Total cost was under $30. I do cover the back half of the tank with 1/4 acrylic in the winter to cut down on evaporation.

Where were you a few weeks ago!
Thanks for the inspiration. It's a special satisfaction to build something yourself and get such great results.

Before you go spend a $1,000 on a controller with all the bells and whistles you should ask yourself if you really need it. Its nice to have everything controlled from one place but it also puts your entire tank in jeopardy if something goes wrong. I have my tank set up with timers for lights...
I ran a line down to the power supply and dimmer switch down to the cabinet. I at first wired it in parallel and tested it with a pair of batteries and I couldn't believe how bright 2 "AA" batteries made it shine. When I hooked up the driver it kept flashing. I rewired it in series and it works...
After my Ocean Revive lights kept burning out I gave up on LEDs and switched to T5s. Everything is growing better and my wife loves the look of 1 simple fixture hanging instead of a 4 units with multiple wires. I used the 2 bulb option for sunrise/sunset which looked nice but was missing that...
I've been watching the price of Aquavitro Salinity salt go up every time I buy a bucket for the last couple of years. The last bucket I bought had very high Alk that did not match the batch label on the bucket. I've been reading about Fritz Pro RPM and saw it at Aquatic Obsessions so I thought...
A Powder Blue Tang in that tank would be like watching a tennis match with it going back and forth. Thats an awesome build. Very unique. My biggest worry would be any sag or imperfection on that stand would put a tremendous amount of strain on the 12' piece of glass.
I used to use heaters to heat the water but i found it a lot faster to take my big lobster steaming pot and heat the RO/DI on the stove then add to that in the mix station.
Sebae. It's over a foot across so it was a pretty big mess. I did notice that for a few days before it was acting
differently. It took more of a volcano shape rather then a dinner plate shape.
Sounds like what I went through. I put on felt filter socks and ran extra carbon and had no ill effects at all. Try to let the tank settle in from all the changes and let it find its equilibrium again.
If everything else looks ok the nem might only be hiding. If the fish look stressed it might be time for another water change. I ran a triple amount of carbon for a week which seemed to head off any adverse repercussions.
