I have about 250 total gallons with 5 angels and 3 tangs making up the bulk of my bio load(poop). There's also about 20 smaller fish along with mixed corals and anemones. I ran the Warner Eco-Bak+ for for about 2 1/2 years and only used up a total of maybe 1250ml in that time. I also run a well...
I don't carbon dose but from what I understand it is more for Nitrates then Phosphates. From what I understand from the giant reef "echo chamber" if you deplete your nitrates it upsets the redfield ratio and the tank can no longer absorb phosphates. It might be best to stop the Vodka and just...
Then I would think bio pellets are not your answer. My experience is they are very efficient on reducing nitrates but not as much on phosphates. It seems my fuge is handling both right now but from what I've read an algae scrubber seems to concentrate more on phosphates. Maybe someone local runs...

I ran Bio pellets on my tank for several years and they did a great job of reducing both nitrates and to a lesser degree phosphates. It was very much a set and forget except for occasional maintenance. It was actually too efficient. I ran it in conjunction with a fuge and between the...
I use a Finnex controller:

Its inexpensive and reliable. I have it set at 78 and my 2x 300w heaters set at 80. This way if...
I have a feather duster that fell behind my rock work. It has very little flow and is completely shaded. Been back there for a few years and it is growing awesome.
I was last there about a year ago. He was still building out his system. He gave me a tour of his basement sump and backyard pond/stream. I tried calling a few times since but haven't gotten an answer. I sorta forgot about him until this thread.
If you are anywhere near Freehold I'd be very happy to give you some corals to start with. I have some Tyree Toadstool and neon green Nephthea. Easy to care for and a good starter coral to test your tank.
This is kinda scary. I always assumed the flow in the tank would be enough to keep everything alive till a problem was noticed. I ran 2 circuits to my tank and split the sump and power-heads between them for redundancy's sake. I'll have to add this to my list of 108 things that can go wrong.
Should definitely take a side trip to Newport. Great area to walk around. Nice waterfront. There is also a path along the cliffs called the Mansion Walk that runs along the bay with the Mansions built in the 20s by the Vanderbilts, Duponts and Rockefellers in the background. They are as...
