Well I use my MH sparingly ( and I am not saying that is the best way to go about it), so I wont be able to ask that question. Try to meet with a reefer who has a big tank 100G+. Odds are that he would have 2 or more MH on his tank. You could ask them about the lighting schedule.

... which makes you somewhat of an interfering god of little things doesnt it?
..Please dont mind me, I have a steady position that we understand the complexities of nature much less than we care to confess and thus am in favour of natural selection taking its course in my tank... Sure its a...
AdamPl http://www.njreefers.org/joomla/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&action=profile;u=1293 I believe had the exact same set up, and he grew multiple monti caps with it. I think it is just as important to keep dark areas in your tank unless you make sure that you pick creatures from shallow...
Started some research on LED lights today and could consider a DIY. I still really like the looks and effects of halides. My current fixture has 1 Fiji 75/25 and 3 ATI Blue plus. The corals are OK under them, but the polyps nearly double in size when the halide is on. Even my acans love it but I...
you got that right!! ... Tank shots would be really helpful,( we can swap pictures of our respective algae outbreaks ;D )
I am looking for a bright light in my 90G FOWLR.
I dont think Wingo uses 5mm. I am expecting a mail from him soon, and could let you know of the different options. I am also looking to supplement with LEDs. But I might consdering supplementing the T5 and not Halide.
I have to say, that things might grow fine under T5, but halides cause polyp...
...ooh thats a bad one ... thanks for the education john90009. What causes it to thrive though? The usual suspects seem to be out since harryk has pretty clean water.
... Why is this algae bad ?? Is it beacause it is harming an inhabitant, or because it because it is unsightly and reefing norms/vanity say that you mustn't have it ??... It is surprising how poeple would proudly maintain their GSP colonies and pay money for hermit crabs but take the axe to hair...
That was some pretty heartening info mfisher. Would you be able to post a tank shot of the 90g? Alternatively if you could give your address ( and don't mind my coming over) then I could swing by sometime to see them in action. Let me know. Thanks again for the info.
Wingo's, (Manhattan Reef) controllable LED light fixture costs somewhere around the same. I had a conversation with him last Friday. Some fellow reefers seem to approve of his lights at Macna.
I am never going to spend that much amount of money on a single fixture, especially if it has very...
Thanks for the inputs .... I was also looking at these array to light refugium, mangrove tank and phyto culture.

... I will talk with Wingo and check out his light sometime next week.
Mike, I really wanted to check out what happened to the solitary Cap coral in that tank a couple of months later, but the thread has been closed. That being said, you are right, and the guy desinged per his requirements...
I have gone through that RC thread before. The par values of that compared to retail fixtures are wayyy to low. Pacific Sun claims to have above 200 par at 24" depth. The DIY fixture has that at the surface !! So inspite of using higher output LEDS, the guy cut corners on LED numbers/ input...
Thanks for the inputs Phyl .. I havent researched fishes well enough and hence the post. Apart from the cleanup crew, I intend to start with maybe 7 green chromis, a cleaner shrimp a Yellow/Naso tang. Fox face seems to be out then.
.. Would you know why the fishes dont need light though...
I am cool with any option as long as it provides me an energy efficient alternative to T5 VHOs. There is another DIY LED light thread going on which I am also following.
But here are the questions I like to ask myself in a build vs buy situation:
What is the cost analysis of the existing...
But ..why are we discussing only Sunbrite?? .... Didnt any one check/like the Pacific Sun info that I had posted ?

Their youtube video shows really promising PAR values ...

I just got a 90G, primarily to circumvent fish keeping the constraints that my current 40G invert tank imposes.
I was thinking of converting it to a FOWLR with around 50 pound of LR and 1.5" sand bed. I am considering starting off as a FOWLR since I am really undecided about the lighting, and...
... First off they are in no way cheap ... a 8X48" fixture with light hood would cost you $1,360 (8 X 169.99 + 229). ... However they are cheaper than existing products, but we have experienced that with other products made at countries where labour is cheaper. Why is this a big exception? ... I...
I wanted to get some feed back on them, if anyone has seen them in action. They looked to be at a pretty good price point and can be added piecemeal which alleviates the pain to your wallet. Other than that, there's no need for reflectors on them, and ballast are less demanding and half the...
