... you definitely have my company there ;D.
Anyone know where to get this without paying shipping? I had got the following last time from Robbies reef and and found it super easy to use this to seed your tank with copepods and what I am sure where amphipods (they were of the size of a small...
... This was just an idea I hit upon yesterday and have been working towards ... no guarantees with about the results but looked OK on paper.
Some suggestions were given and issues raised which by mnat and others. Thanks a lot guys for indulging my craziness and keeping the discussion going...
I have been researching all sorts of copepods, amphipods and rotifers and will try to have a mix of them (may be less of amphipods) in my DT with cultures in my sump and QT. I will start adding mushrooms and LPS soon.
I am trying to figure out ways of making reef maintenance easier (I know...
I have a 40G fish tank that has close to 50 snails of different types in it and am going to seed my DT and sump with tigger pods and phyto feast today and add macroalgae (sargassm) to both.
I am hoping not to require a further clean up crew and am negating the need of keeping the skimmer on...
Since you did go with the mangroves do you want to make it look like a beach/shallow waters ? Something like LPS/shrooms would look really artificial in that tank wouldnt you say? SPS perhaps as they do sometimes grow not so far from the shore. You could have conches, starfishes, clams, pencil...
As per this: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_does_one_gallon_of_seawater_weigh it's more close to 8.5 lbs at 1.025 specific gravity.
Which means that you are looking at 170 pounds of water for even a 20G aquarium. Add the weight of rocks, sand and dead weight of the tank and you are up to...
.. Now you made me hungry!! >:(
..this might stop the from sending you nasty PMs ... but will expose me to some from the Mods I suppose ;D
I am not buying the fish from any of our sponsors, since I seem to be getting a way better price ($2.50/ green chromis ) at a vendor near my office in...
Yep I meant the Kole ... how come the possibility of a typo didnt occur to you :) ....
I dont necessarily mean frightened since the tang probably wont attack the chromis on account of being a herbivore.... ahh well, no schools for me I suppose.
... after you are done building the stand, start building a crane ;D. Unless you are David Copperfield or Hercules the Great I dont see a way you can do this without draining the tank.
There might be another way though. It requires draining but there is minimal water loss. (So doesnt change...
I dont know if I could revive the thread ... but here goes:
I am trying to get 5 green chromis to shoal in my 40G and would need some fish that keeps them on alert most of the time. I have some constraints and I am fast starting to lose hope of being able to see a group of fish swimming in...
Nice one dude. Just make sure that you have an exit strategy once this thing starts to go grow. Apparently they can go up to 18".
Most of the owner-posts that I was reading on the Net said that theirs came out when the LEDs were on (may be the eel was doesnt like the heat, but does OK with...
Doesnt the egggrating the bottom result in what is called a Plenum system ? There are iffy reports about its effectiveness. Are there any other reasons to eggcrate the bottom ?
Will make a note never to buy any damsels.
Nick, how do you make sure that the overflowing water is the old water and not the freshly added one? The only way I can think of is:
1. Shutting sump off from DT
2. Adding the fresh water at a distinctly lower temp than water in the sump so that it settles down and pushes the old warmer water...
I have thought a lot about of auto water changes and was actually thinking of taking it a step further...
Assuming that we are running a skimmer and carbon/phosban, isnt the water you are taking out your tank .. basically salt water depleted of oxygen and consumable minerals?? (ok I concede...
