what i meant by my comment is that i think there is only 1 choice for actinic lamps for vho t-12. i don't think there are multiple colors to choose from.
the reeflix is suprisingly blue for 12k. i had a 400 watter over my display and it was bluer than the 14k hamilton and 14k ushio. i'm not sure about the icecap.
i was serious actually. i don't purposely kill anything. everything has a chance in the refugium. if you were thinking of euthanizing it, give it a chance in "jurrasic park".
put him in your sump till macna dave. i'll take him. i like to put them in a ring(my refugium) with the sps eating snails, and see who comes out victorious ;)
i never add phytoplankton to the tank and my sps grows fine. that said, i hear the best way to add it, is with a constant drip. the problem with that is you'll have poor water quality in no time at all.
just keep up with waterchanges and they will do well. new tanks are not the best ones for...
i didn't say t-5's aren't a good choice for sps. i have t-5 lit tanks with plenty of sps in them. i was just saying in a 24" deep tank, stick with the halides, which definitely penetrate the water better than t-5's. i looked at jersey wendys tank and she's got the sps in the upper half of the...
then if that's the case, i'm not far off on my original statement. the amount of wattage doesn't differ that much between the t-5 and MH in the article you posted, so the amount of energy/heat should be similar, but just spread out instead of concentrated.
you must have misunderstood my earlier statement. your disagreement is welcome, but i was pointing out that the heat is less and spread out over a long bulb instead of concentrated in one spot. it doesn't matter if you "do it again" or not. i'm trying to help this guy decide with what i have...
i have a 4way right now as a matter of fact. i think it's great. no heat in the tank from it, or the external pump that powers it.
i'm looking to sell my oceans motions 4 way and i have a choice of 2 pumps to go with it (a reeflo barracuda, and a pressure rated 4200SEQ12.
actually, i'm looking...
cost and heat aren't much of an issue really. when you think about a 6' tank and how many t-5 lamps you'll want to put over it, the electricity used will be about the same as with a trio of halides. also, i think that halides put out heat that is centralized and concentrated, as opposed to the...
