    The Worlds Oldest Living Creature

If the death was the result of a genuine scientific research (including getting statistical information about the age), while death of any species is regretable, it might serve the "greater good" - greater understanding and potentially environmental protection. This is nothing compared to...

Should I give SPS a try?

    I am in Plainsboro (08536)

    ID ?

What is their size? I don't remember seen majanos with that many tentacles or that coloration, but then, I certainly haven't seen them all :) Majano anemone are considered nuisance/pests because in nutrient rich environment they can multiply fast and are more powerful stingers then most of the...

Should I give SPS a try?

Where are you located? I have plenty of small frags of very hardy SPS (various species of Montipora) that you can try with. With Kenya trees, the problem might not be the water and light quality. As a matter of fact theyare much more affected by tnkmates then rest of parameters. Being placed in...

    Help me setup my sump

Small corrections on the posted articles (links). Chaeto is eatable by Tangs, and probably by other herbivores. Sump is NOT a refugium! Strictly speaking, if something is called a refugium then its primary role is the raising of plankton life (refuge from the predatory fish), and filtration is...

    Tank Murder's ;_; so sad :(

Try to think of it this way - the price of the lesson you have learned could have been far, far higher, both emotionally and in terms of money, if this would have happened several years from now with the tank full of well established and grown, highly priced beautiful corals and fish.

    Advice on Triggerfish

Try inducing it to eat veriety of foods by mixing them with what it ieats without the problem and serving it at the same time. Try various things at the same time, like F1 pelets, flakes dry cyclops-eeze. This helps specially if there are other fish that would go aftre all that food as well.

    Cant find my one clown

At this point there is not much you could do. THe fish is stressed for one reason or other and any action on your part will probably just aggrevate the stress. It could be that the fish was sick to start with. Or the fish is scared of new environment. Or it did not react well to something in...

"Chaeto"...Chaetomorpha...a city for worms? (think futurama)

That is what the fuge is for - for all those criters. :) However, junk accumulating in the chaeto is not so a good thing, since it is not a good thing to be accumulated anywhere, and better flow would solve that.

Start of my aquapod - help as i progress

That could be one reason if the wound did not heal properly and there was infection. How long did it pass between the injury/mounting and when it started receding?

    higher K=shorter bulb life??

Since the temperature color does not really have anything to do with real temperature inside the bulbs but with the different chemicals used in gas fillings for MH and coatings for fluorescent bulbs, I seriously doubt that there is a linear corelation between the color temperature and the...

    Looking for advice on parameters

Easiest way is by using Kalk. Add very, very small amounts since it is very alkaline.

Start of my aquapod - help as i progress

Couple of observations. From the first shot, your bleaching started at the end that is away from the lights (right side). Also From the full tank shot, it seems to me that cap is in a bit of shade. Maybe it is play of light on your pic, but to me it looks that the ca is in the darkest corner of...

    red algae help

Assuming you are talking about the red growth covering surfaces of your sand and rocks - trapping bubbles and latter letting longer filaments, those are cyanobacteria. You eliminate them by a) correcting (reducing) your nutrients in the water b) creating more flow over affected areas c)...

    Dead Bird's Nest

Such rapid decline is really strange given that the other corals are fine. How big was the colony? How old? Absolutely nothing else declined? I had something similar when I changed MH bulbs and left the corals exposed to the new bulbs, but then my whole right half of the tank bleanched in a...

    trumpet trouble

I have a good success with the Formula 1 pellets, but that is because I (corals) have to fight fish, hermits and stars that are much faster and more agile in stealing their food. Pellets of Formula 1 can be swallowed pretty fast. The more "natural" food for them would be mysid shrimps (if they...

    Ozone Generators

Quite a few people here are using them. However, if you don't mind me saying this, I would strongly advise you not to get one of them for the time being. You have just started in this hobby, with the tank that has to go long way before it matures, and ozone generators are definitively not for...

    trumpet trouble

First, and for certain, your bulbs should be replaced. Second, it is quite possible that your conditions were never favorable for thm to start with. The corals probably were starwing slovly, and for 1 month were probably using their stored reserves. Those could be depleted by now and they are...

    trumpet trouble

How long did you have your coral before that? How old are light bulbs?

    Cycling a tank quickly

You should have scrubbed those. They are either already dead by now and will just pollute water, or are going to die due to the lack of proper food, and pollute water later. Did you fully cure the rock? Even if they sold you the LR as fully cured, you should cure it for several weeks just in case.
