I am running both carbon and phos in reactors.
I am sure it is not bubbles. I am wondering if it is just detritus not getting pulled out of the tank. I would think with that much flow it would get pushed into the overflow eventually. But maybe not. I have 2 more korilia 4's that I am going to...
I thought I would post an update. I put filters on the intake fans. I used heater filters cut down and mounted it on the outside of the canopy. I have also done 2 water changes since I first posted. I am also skimming pretty wet.
No luck. I can still see just as much stuff in the water as...
well that definitely raised the Mg. I kinda over shot it a bit. I planned on a water change tomorrow anyway. Will report in the afternoon with the readings after the water change.
I probably have epsom salt around here already. I was reading about that, but was concerned about the sulfates. But I guess you can't get any mag that doesn't contain some sulfates.
I will mix up a batch and post again after I test in a few hours.
well I'm off to find some Mg. Aquarium center near me has it for $10 for a 250ml bottle, not much of a deal. I would like to start fixing this today so I am going to use mail order as a last resort.
Thats 2.5 bottles! Does anyone make a stronger bottle? Maybe a water change with a better salt? I know there have been problems with RC having low Mag.
I'm growing a bit of everything. Sps, lps, leathers, toadstools, zoas. Growth on my caps and coraline growth has slowed considerably but nothing is losing color.
So your saying I can exceed the max dosage as long as tests show I am not exceeding 1350? I can just add 200ml in a day w/o...
OK after 2 days of using the max dosage of the MG, with no changes to the Ca reactor here are my readings:
Ca 360ppm
KH 110ppm
MG 1080ppm
The max dosage of MG is 60ml/day for my system, but after 2 days of the max dosage I am still not getting anywhere. ???
What am I missing?
Should I just...
thanks for explaining, its makes a lot more sense now. I am going to continue to dose daily with mag to bring that up and see if the reactor can keep up.
I added the media about 7-8 months ago.
Is there a better media than Caribsea ARM?
Also with water changes every 10-14 days (reef crystals) shouldn't I expect the MG to be higher?
Just tested for today and the levels are:
Ca 380
KH 10
MG 1260
I am dosing with Brightwell Magnesion to bring MG up. How fast can I safely bring this level up to 1350?
Also, what is all this effluent doing if it isn't raising the ca? It has to be doing something even though the mg is low right?
I have a K2R calcium reactor rated for 350 gal that seems to be losing it's ability to keep up in my 120g volume system, I have been tuning it, but Ca still drops.
I am using standard ARM media
effluent ph 6.8
CO2 120-130 bpm
effluent is a small steady stream
Ca 360
Alk 10
Mg 1200
I dose with...
I have a copperband in my reef tank with inverts, clams and tons of zoas, no problems at all. I never see him peck at anything other than the rocks and apistasia.
+1 on the retro. That fixture is 9 inches wide with 6 bulbs? Those reflectors are only about 1.25"? For a bit more you can get a 3 tek retros from our sponsor TFJ. You will get a ton more light than you would out of that fixture. (you seen the sun under my canopy) Also fixtures are not designed...
the reflector width varies by manufacturer. My tek retro reflectors are about 3" wide each. some fixtures have 8 bulbs and are only 10" wide. You have seen my setup, thats 6 t-5's that consume the entire 18" canopy.
