go to mrc"s web site, order your skimmer there. as big a refugium you can fit under there the better, lighting is a personal choice as far as color, but corals grow better at the 10 - 14k range, a closed loop is just as it sounds, you can google it or search the forums here.
how about this
oceanic 120 reef ready drilled for closed loop or a acrylic custom made for you$????
1/4 hp chiller( min need for tank this size with halides)$300-400
mrc mr-2 skimmer (more bang for the buck than a ASM)$520 or a mr-3 $580
precision marine kalwasser reactor(dose calcium and...
SERIOUSLY THOUGH, THIS GUY HAS SOME NICE TANKS AND I THINK HE WILL MAKE WHAT YOU WANT, THE PRICES SEEM VERRY REASONABLE , I BELIEVE HE ALSO HAS STANDS AND HOODS, I WISH I SAW THIS BEFORE I BOUGHT MY TANK, BUT THATS OK I LOVE MY TANK...

i just saw this, maybe something you would be interested in
the asm skimmers are ok but they take up sump space that you could use for something else like more refugium space, due to the fact that it is an insump only skimmer
i have seen some nice acrylic tanks on e bay for a verry reasonable price, you just have to be carefull setting up the rock and cleaning as not to scratch it
spend the extra money, its worth it, much nicer looking tank and better built, oceanic has awsome stuff, as far as the skimmer allot of people here either use etss or mrc, if your going sps youll need either a etss 800xr or a mrc mr-2 for a 120 with sps, anything less would be uncivilized...
i was thinking about running a closed loop, i dont want to drill holes so i was wondering how i should do it, i have an extra mak4 pump, and i was going to try a spray bar system or a couple sqids, any suggestions would be great
i agree with demo, that baby needs pressure and lots of it, i bought my mr3 used and it came with a mac 4, it was skimming but not like i was told it would, so i upgraded to a 55 and it really changed everything, also make sure the beckett is clean, a tiny peice of nori will really effect these...
my tanks been running for 9 months now, havent cleaned the sand yet, once in a while ill get a little bacteria growth but it disapears on its own, i guess the good bacteria takes care of it..should i clean it or leave well enough alone?
during the day 78.8 and at night its 76.5-77 , 3-400 halides and chiller, tanks a 175, thank god for the chiller, oh yeah i have the wall unit in the living room running at 68 during the day, i almost died when i opened this months electric bill, come on winter
i have the sump on my 175 like in your diagram, every once in a while ill have a problem with the skimmer pump pulling air from the bubbles created from water rushing in from the overflows but other than that it works great, my reefflow is rated at well over 2k/hr but it doesnt over do it...
i agree with the barb thoery, i had the same problem with my skimmer pump pulling air till i hard plumbed the pump instead of using hose and barb, i was getting air in the reaction chamber with the air valve shut off, now its clear water, also cavitation will shorten the life span of an impeller...
i think it all has to do with what you want to grow, if its just softies and stuff like that, then i think t-5 should be fine, but if your going with clams and sps and even some anenomes, well in my opinion halides are the only way to go, but thats my opinion, if i took the halides out of my...
i feed phyto every other day, but i have sps, i shut off the skimmer but leave the main pump running so the phyto gets in my fuge, i feed my anenomes silversides twice a week and let the rest of the corals fend for them selves through photosynthysis, alls well so far, no spot feeding
i dont know about that, they say star pollips are a natural warning system of tank conditions, so far my tank peramiters are perfect and i cant get rid of my xenias, they are repopulating after removing what i thought was all of them, but yet i have a rock with zoos on it, they arent dying but...
i have 2 of the spotted species, i had to seperate them even though one was male and other female, the little female was shreded to hell from the male constantly chasing her, so shes in the fuge now, but they are both plump as can be, after 6 months i put atleast 3000 pods in my fuge, now thier...
