Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I know for a fact their best selling carbon is not lignite. It is bitum. Boomer you didn't call. You even mention yourself that there it is cheaper. Cheaper almost always sells more product then higher priced products. Bitum carbons are used in many, many more industries then lignite it's not...
I'm not sure I'd agree with the less going wrong part. Any piece of equipment you choose to use does have some negative. The skimmer could overflow and drain the tank. However if setup correctly this shouldn't happen!
I myself would prefer to remove as much DOCs & detritus as possible from the...
The bung hole puts a damper on it for me too Phyl. I was thinking they could still be used for RO/DI purposes only. Not to great for mixing salt water however. I'd rather have something a bit more versatile to use.
I'm going to sit out on this one for a while and let the people who really need...
If you don't buy the numbers Seachem says, then you don't buy them. I myself don't get hung up on the numbers. I only use them for selecting "candidates" to try. However, don't forget the pore size itself isn't the only factor that affects the carbon getting plugged up.
I didn't say wood looks...
IMHO, forget what the "manufacture" tells you. Find out what membrane you have and then go look up the specs for the membrane. The only reason you need this ratio is because of the membrane so if in doubt ask the people who make the membrane.
3:1 is the normal standard for our size membranes...
Seachem's carbon has a Molasses number in the 600s ROX at 450.
Rox has a high Ash content, Seachem's is low. Ash normally = phosphate leaching. It's hard to avoid regardless of washing.
I've already stated the reasons why I wouldn't prefer to use ROX in an aquarium so I'm not going to repeat...
Did you guys notice there is no rock in those tanks. :)
I think I can see one rock in the middle of the last tank pic. Man it must be cool to have the rock work covered so well like that!
Carlo
Maybe I missed it. Did he ever say what material these are made from? I want to watch what I store RO/DI water in. I'm not as concerned with mixed salt water.
Carlo
PS The "little" 15g cans could make very nice Kalk reactors too depending on what they are made of.
I don't think so Phil. I think we're going to need it. That great you can do this!
Good one Phyl, Is their DOLLYS available for them? If so how much for the 55s?
Carlo
PS Phyl, I know we need water storage for the swap. Maybe we could use some of these and then sell them afterwards - or...
1) You need to QT EVERYTHING that goes into the tank.
2) The system will end up costing you 5 to 10 times more then you originally calculate if you're lucky!
3) A shop vac really is a tank accessory. It will be extremely useful especially when you don't have one. :)
4) If you have to ask if...
I wouldn't worry about hooking up the probe just for this purpose. If you aren't running ozone it's not important.
I think I mentioned it already but wanted to make sure to drive the point home. Use more carbon (any type bitum, lignite). :) You want to make sure you get all the toxins out from...
Phyl, I think that would just be a gut call for Billy to make. He probably won't be able to get all the calcium/alkalinity additions he needs from just Kalk. He should be able to get to 8.5/8.6ish pretty easily with just kalk but then he'll need to back off and only use it to sustain that pH...
Boomer, I don't want to argue/debate with you anymore then anyone else. But when you keep constantly attacking my posts when I DO IN FACT know what I'm talking about I'm going to go until either I'm proven wrong (doesn't happen very often) or I'm right.
In this thread for example if you had...
They aren't rants Boomer. They are corrections to your incorrect information you are spewing forth trying to sound like a know it all.
I never said I KNOW HIM. What I said was "I have talked to Ron and members of the staff numerous times and have been working on a project with them for one of...
Something else.
Get yourself a really good method to measure phosphates.
Low Range Test Kits:
Hach
Merck
LaMotte
Low Range Colorimeter:
Hach colorimeter
LaMotte
Can also use a cheaper colorimeter like a Hannah but it's not going to be as accurate as the other tools mentioned above. Close...
