Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
During the cycle you don't want to change out any of the water. Part of the process of the cycle is establishing all the different bacteria. Changing the water removes some of the bacteria which you are trying to establish and it works against you. Plus you will probably want to record your...
I like Phyls idea. Plus you get a discount back after the fact. The tank isn't go to stay perfect anyway. Sooner or later you are going to get little scratches in it.

It's funny however, since everyone always says salt water tanks (especially reefs) are much harder. Half the people I know who put a FW tank in after being a SW person for a while fail too. One thing for sure is that it's a lot cheaper per failure!

Yea but don't buff it or anything until you know what's going to happen to it first. You never know if they will send someone to take a look at it first. It's possible they could blame the shipping company and the shipping company might send someone out.
You could ask them what they intend to...
But you really don't want to mess with the water temperature a lot. By this I mean running a mixture of hot/cold water through it from a faucet if you use the screw on type connector. Most membranes have a spec calling for temperature to run roughly between 40 & 93F. Actually the colder the...
Phyl I was thinking at 15 gallon you could manually top off and not have to hook it into the RO/DI unit. Just hook up a small Aqualifter style pump to it on a controller and be done with it. You don't even need a pump inside to stir it. Once the limewater is saturated it won't fall back out of...
They come in little one use packs Rich. Remind me when the Frag Swap gets closer and I'll bring a pack of it to the swap for you to take home and try.
I'd be interested in seeing the difference between the two solutions also since the Pinpoint stuff is kind of expensive for how much you get.

We would sit back drink beer and "manage" the project John. Maybe snap a few pics of the "others" working their butts off. :)
I would have made it on Wednesday also to help out. I hope everything goes smoothly with the moving company.

RichT -Fixed a typo on the word "butts" ;)
I bet a MaxiJet 1200 would fit inside easily. That should really be all the pump that is needed to mix or pump salt with. You could also use 2 of them if you thought you wanted more action in there. I use a MJ 1200 sometimes in a 44g Brute and it seems to work OK.

Very nice Rich. I just got in more of the 400mV pinpoint solution today myself. Any solution in the 400-450 range is going to be much better then the 700 range DIY solution I mentioned earlier.
Curious, did you adjust your ORP values earlier with the 700 DIY solution before getting the 445mV...
Look at the bright side, if you've been following this. You must have learned something about carbons a long the way even if only trivial. :o
If nothing else, the chart on the value of different carbons is generally pretty decent. I think most people could also gather from this thread that both...
Of course they won't tell you outright how the ash contributes to PO4 leaching. But generally speaking the more ash in the product the more phosphate leaching occurs. Not always but generally is a good way to put it. This is the general correlation I've found anyway for those with published ash...
