40 Breeder & 24" 2 Bulb T5 Fixture
Well, I had one, but now it's got a nice chip on the edge of one the panes thanks to I believe the family dog knocking a 3 legged chair over onto it......didn't even get to touch water......frustrating.
Anyways, now I need a new one. Was going to build my...
Really? I would assume you've never seen this tongue eating/replacing isopod then, lol.
From what I've read, there's no real confirmed reports of this thing biting human nuts rather than tree nuts, lol. I think it may be more of a tall tale that came to be due to it's impressive teeth and the...
How hard has it really been to make a stand though? And how much do you think you saved over buying a pre-made stand? I'm thinking about doing one for a 40b, but I have basically 0 wood working experience and 0 tools besides maybe a hack saw and a miter box, which could probably do most of the...
Maybe I should have noted. I do not run a skimmer, so really my sump is just extra water and a tiny fuge. So making sure all the flow passes through any particular area wasn't factored into my design.
I also do not have a bubble trap between the return and the fuge area though and with my...
Here, let me ruin that for you, lol.
I set my sump up like this: Inlet--Bubble Trap--Return--Fuge. The return is just teed off and I send some water through the fuge that way and it runs right back into the return area. This allows me to control the amount of flow in the fuge without having...
So I guess the beginning for me starts at age 5 with a 20 gallon tank my parents bought me for x-mas. I ran that tank FW for 10 years. During high school I bounced back and forth between my parent's homes, so it was difficult to keep a tank, but I managed to keep a small 10 gallon tank with some...
Might be a good idea. I keep mine in the basement, so it's typically around 65-72 degrees room temp. Throwing the heater in there only for the day I need it might help. I can't measure Ca, Mg and Alk, as I have a basic test kit for my pretty basic tank. I do a WC every week though, about 5...
Yeah, using reg IO. It's been maybe 5-6 weeks since I've cleaned. Which likely is too long, probably shouldn't let it go more than a month, but I was away all weekend, so maybe that's what I'll do this weekend. There is however a clear distinction between the brown, dusty looking stuff that...
Hmmm, not sure if that's what I'm seeing. The brown spots and the white build up are clearly two different things. On the bottom of the container, it just looks like a white hard water deposit, but it's still submerged. The brown spots, I'm 90% that it's algae or bacteria because the way it's...
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how can calcium evaporate underwater? I'm not getting build up above the water, but rather at the bottom of the container mostly.
It's 95% covered. The lid has the wires from the heater and powerhead running under it so it's lifted off the container a bit.
I did some googling and failed to find much on this besides that you should clean your mixing tub/tank/can/wtv every couple weeks.
Anyways, so I have a 20 gallon Brute container that I use to mix saltwater. I leave a powerhead and heater in there because I don't use that much water, so it...
I ended up turning that elbow up and getting a threaded push fitting to put the airline into. Wrapped it with teflon then that magic wrap stuff. Works great and starts the siphon pretty quick. No leaks yet, lol.
Right now, all I have is the 1/8" couplings I got, but I know tractor supply 20 mins away has 1/4" thread to barb adapters.
To make my life easier, i.e. not having to buy a tap. In the diagram, basically where the outside U is teed off to send it down to the sump, there pipe that comes up...
Essentially this is what I made and the barb adapter is going basically where shown in the diagram:

If the connection were to not be perfectly water/air tight, would it make much of a difference? The aqualifter pump will be running...
They make em in 1/8". It only took me 2 weeks and about 10 different hardware stores to find it, lol. I ended up finding it on Amazon Supply, which I didn't realize existed until 3 days ago.
It's for the aqualifter pump that will allow my pvc overflow to restart siphon if an outage were to...
I'm trying to attach an 1/8" nylon hose barb to my pvc overflow, but I'm not sure what to use. I've read super glue won't bond to nylon well, so I was thinking about epoxy. Should I use the putty that you need or the stuff you should mix?
This isn't going anywhere near my tank or water for at...
