As promised here are some photos of my sump. What I did right this time from my previous tank (besides not cutting any support beams) was to have the water from the display drain into the compartment where the protein skimmer is located.
As is always the case, things didn't go entirely as...
I like the aquascaping. My girlfriend wanted to make a cave like you have but we just didn't have the rocks to make it possible. That didn't stop her from trying though. I've said it before and I'll say it again- Couples shouldn't aquascape together. No siree....
Whoo Hoo!! I have sexy fish :D I'll take some pictures Saturday-I promise. Maybe the fish will even vogue for me. Got called into work early and that kinda messed up my plans.
Needreefunds: I saw a thread on Reefcentral where someone placed a sump under their established tank by sawing out the...
Boy is my face red :P She just read my response and she said that's how we got the sump to fit in the stand under the 16 gallon bow. Yes we are a bowfront household ;D We just slid the tank in through the back and put down 2x4's with styrofoam to give it a level base to sit on. It's not a...
Richie, I'll post pics of my sump tomorrow. I have yet to take a picture of it. The key to getting it to fit is to put it in through the top before you place the tank in its final resting place. Luckily my girlfriend had the foresight to think this through otherwise if we did it my way I'd...
I think it depends on the species if you can keep 2 of the same in a tank. Some are more aggressive than others. If you look under the Nano section you can see my minibow thread. I have a Watchman Wheeler's goby and a High Fin goby sharing the same quarters. In my case the High Fin seems much...
I've had mixed results with pistol shrimp. 3 years ago I had a pistol shrimp and he was the perfect tankmate. I rarely saw him and never bothered anyone from what I could tell. The only way I knew he was alive was the occasional popping sound. That was in a 30 gallon cube.
This time around I...
Looks like a Wheeler's Goby to me as well. Not to worry- even though he wasn't what you thought, they still have a ton of personality for a fish that size. I like my lil' guy.
Here's my Wheeler's for comparison:
Thanks- see how fast your frogspawn frag grew ;D That actually came from the 15 gallon set up that I bought last month. It's hard to believe it was in a tank that size. I think having more flow on it has really allowed it to expand. I wish I had my camera when I was loking at the tank and the...
Personally I would buy a RO/DI unit. I have 3 tanks- a 46g, 16g and 7g. I got lucky (after spending hours scouring the fish classifieds) and was able to get my hands on a Spectrapure 60gpd for a little over $100. I was happy with 60gpd because I read that there is less waste with a unit that...
I don't want the 46 to feel neglected so here's an update of some shots I took this weekend. Great, now the 16 gallon is tugging on my pant leg for attention :P
Thanks for the kind words! My mother always said I was a bad influence. Here are a couple more shots to tempt you....You know you wanna ;D

The pistol shrimp was excommunicated to the 16 gallon bow. My girlfriend wanted him so she can have him. I'm convinced we had a rogue pistol shrimp. I had trouble keeping any inverts alive in that tank yet I had no idea why. The pistol was never in his hole-he always seemed to be on the prowl...
Got my Visa bill today. :o Looks like I won't be buying any new gadgets or livestock anytime soon. With that depressing scenario hanging over me, I've decided to share what my gobies have been up to.
Since the removal of the pistol shrimp, they have put their differences behind them and decided...
For those following along- it's finally working the way I had expected. Apparently air trapped within the motor really hinders the performance of this thing. The girlfriend- well she's fast asleep right now. But won't she be impressed to see how much labor this thing is going to save me.
"Best...
Well, I felt the motor turn on and saw a very tiny tiny whirlpool effect occur near the motor so at least I know the motor operates. To say I was underwhelmed is an understatement. I was expecting to see more agitation. On top of it, my girlfriend is asking me "How much did you pay for that?"...
Next showing is roughly just after 10 p.m. Man, if I get distracted and miss it... Must remain focused on chamber. And I thought staring at a fishless tank while it was cycling was a strange way to pass time.
Eric
Thanks for all the replies. It is a stirrer not a reactor so I'm guessing the little piece of pvc is the stirrer. I was under the impression it would have a bar stirring the kalk located at the bottom of the chamber. Thankfully the seller responded by saying that there is no bar with this model...
Here's how I got rid of my hair algae- I upped my water changes from 10% to 20% weekly (but make sure your water is RO/DI otherwise it may be pointless). I shortened my lighting period by 2 hours and ran a Phosban reactor until the algae disappeared. I basically tried to starve it to death...
