i agree that Chalice corals are the next big thing.
i have been seeing more and more different verities offered by both hobbyist and the web(frag farmers). some are just 3/4 inch frags so this tells me they are not that abundant yet and being slow growers they take a while to circulate.
i also...
years ago i had a small reptile zoo....
10 different pythons and boas ( the largest was a 16ft Burmese python named Zeus ).......3 pairs of water dragons , a pair of blue tongue skinks, a pair of tegus and a 3ft x 4ft terrarium full or frogs, salamanders and the bottom was a shallow water basin...
are you allowed to submit more then one pic per month?
i just took an awesome shot(my opinion ;)) but i already submitted one for this months contest......if only allowed one per month ill just save it for next month unless i take a better one by then ;D
thanks......al
so far i have not lost any corals or polyps due to the bristle worms.
i really think they feed only on waste and whatever falls to the sand bed
hth..........al
wendy , i have one about that big in my tank and i just let him be, they are great scavengers and will help keep the tank clean..
if you want to get him out try the coke bottle trap. if you catch a shrimp or crab in it just dump them back into the tank and try again in a day or two.
good luck...
if you need rock try posting a want to buy thread..lots of people here have extra laying around and its usually cheeper then the lfs....and most of the time it better(loaded with critters and pods)
first ...welcome to the club and our "sickness" ;)
a few sugestions.....i say get rid of the damsel fish while there is nowhere for them to hide or run. and add more rock for bio filtration
don t get me wrong im not puting your fish selection down , i too started many tanks with damsels but i...
jim , to clean the back of the tank and behind the rock use a length of rigid thin wall tubing attached to a hose. it will be easier to get behind the rock then soft tubing.
as far as adding the sand just use the bigest diameter pvc pipe that will fit behind the rock and spoon the cleaned sand...
wendy....keep an extra container of tank water on the side to let the frags sit in after they are cut . this container is for letting them ooze/slime befor you put them back in the tank.
i would wait at least 10- 15 minutes and make shure you run carbon in the main tank to remove any toxins they...
if your end result is to just have a sand bed then why no just syphen out the the bottom to remove dittrius(sp) and add the sand using a pvc tube.
if you do this you will be able to do a water change and you dont need to disassemble the entire tank.
you can remove about 10-15 gal of water, then...
wendy....if you want a few frags , just cut around the outside edge of the cap making a ring then you can cut the ring into sections and you will wind up with a few frags instead of just 1... then attach to rubble or frag disks like deb said
happy reefing/fragging............al
here is my 20 gal mixed reef.
believe it or not this tank crashed on 2-14-07 because an ice storm knocked out power for 3 days. alot of corals can be saved and brought back to health following a disaster with just a little luck and a lot of love and attention.
happy reefing......al
for what its worth, i keep a 20 high mixed reef and i also use pc lighting.
i think you will find that its not only watts/gal that matter but rather PAR that aids in coral health and growth... for the additional $30-$40 bucks i would get the 130 watt unit if your going with pc's . besides , if...
i run carbon 24/7 and i thought of that too phyl .
i changed the carbon yesterday and i have not seen a change yet.
i dont know whats going on...but i know they are tough to kill and will bounce back eventually...ill give it some time and a w/c tomorrow and see what develops.....if it comes down...
they dont look any better today
the only water parameter that seems off to me is the ph
most of the others have been steady at those numbers for quite a while now and the ph is only off by .1 or so.....
the only thing that has changed was i topped off with 4 cups of kalkwasser mixed at...
