Sounds like you can get the same thing from free samples of live sand from the sumps of a established members tanks. The Coraline can be seeded the same way, using a small rock that is encrusted and scraping it off into the tank. Iv done this for a dozen friends tanks and it always helps to jump...
I have all bare bottom tanks, I feel it tends to focus more attention to the rock work and inhabitants. As for detritus, I take a tube and hose and siphon it directly into the sump, that has sand, that way you save all the little critters, micro stars, baby snails, ect.
Checked my traps, no trops, but got this guy! Collected some before, some type of Blenny. Has some color, Red Eyes, a pair of soft frills like antlers on its head. Bottom dweller, likes holes, found them living in old bottles. And one bit me before, have teeth! Nobody has been able to ID yet...
