well its drilled. Wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be with this old tank and the thick glass. Took about 10 min.
I used a 1" bulkhead and I have a 1" return. I thought that the drain would keep up with the return pump at full throttle, but I was wrong, maybe 1/2 throttle. I...
I am trying to avoid any plumbing in view. Keeping the whole filtration system out of sight, thats my motivation.
I was thinking a check valve, but I dont know if I want to bet the whole 65gal of it in an apt. Thanks for the input.
I am going to drill my tank this weekend and I came up with a neat idea and looking for some input. Here is my plan:
The red being to the sump. Standard design.
The blue being the return from the sump. What I would like to to is have this come into the back of the tank behind the rockwork...
I have been in the market to finish buying my clean up crew and not paying $1.20 for tiny hermits. I stopped at a lfs and he offered to sell me 50 small hermits and a juvenile queen angel (3") for $150.
Think this is a deal?
I couldn't find it local so I found it online @ glass-holes.com, 45mm bit, a new bulkhead, and a new strainer for less than $25, plus free shipping. I will post again after the hole is drilled to let you know about the quality of the order.
Thanks to those who posted.
I am looking for 1.75". Both the harbor freight stores in my area don't stock the glass cutting bits. Also it would be too much to take this tank to a glass cutter for them to do it.
I have looked everywhere for a glass hole bit and can't seem to get my hands on one. Anyone in SNJ know where I can find one? How much should I expect to pay for a 2"?
Thanks in advance
I have a 65 gal with a 20gal DIY sump, aqua C urchin pro skimmer with a mag 3, and a Pentair Quiet One 3000 return pump throttled back to about 600gph. Maybe a 20 sump is too small but its the biggest I could get under the tank without going custom.
I'm always open to suggestions to cure the...
I have my skimmer 1 compartment away from my return pump with 2 sponges in my under/over/under bubble trap and still have micro bubbles too. I am not sure if there is a way to rid them completely.
I was thinking about making this my first meeting, but I don't get done work till 3:30 on sat, so cherry hill i couldn't make before 430 at the earliest.
I guess I will have to try to catch the next south meeting, hopefully it is a bit closer to me. :(
Are they always on a sat.?
I appreciate everyone chiming in with advice, thanks a lot.
coralnut: There is 700gph worth of power heads running on a different circuit that didn't fail, however with nothing to break the water surface I wouldn't expect much gas exchange. Theres about 30 hermits/5 emeralds/3 astraea snails in...
I am guessing at most the power was off for 12 hours while I was at work.
To give some inside as to the tank:
65 gal, 80# LR
only 5 fish, the baseball sized tang being the largest
30-40 corals (soft, hard, shrooms, etc)
700gph circulation w/o sump running
There is nothing to break the water...
Woke up bright and early today and fed the tank some cyclopeze after turning off the sump return pump and letting the circulation pumps do their thing. Right before I left for work I turned everything back on.
Well, sometime during the day my power strip tripped with the switch in the on...
Thanks for the input, they definitely are not asterina stars. Maybe mini brittle like was mentioned.
Pics underwater of something smaller than a dime is challenging to say the least.
