Hi Merv,
Thanks for the info. The flow rate that you are quoting is pretty much the same as with the H&S.
Actually my skimmer runs fine and I have zero nitrates using Salifert. I am bored though and was looking to so something. I had see the plans below on the H&S forum in terms of tee-ing...
I believe, and I could be wrong, that the scientists were rather amateurish in their reasoning of why doorknobicus was a deep water species (even thought they are correct), this species is quite heavy and usually sink to the lower depths of the water. The lesser expensive species can be found at...
Actually, increasing flow will solve the problem as well. An other option (since you have a strainer is to put a gate or ball valve on the pipe going into your sump and close it down until the noise stops. It will stop when the pipe is almost filled with water and hardly any air. The only think...
it is sucking down air. That is why the noise. Can you submerge the entire strainer so that is unde water entirely?
By the way, I like the doorknob coral you got in your tank. It appears to be one of those BSP's (Brass Steel Polyps). :)

Hey Merv,
You said that you are now using a gravity feed for your Deltec skimmer. My H&S is basically the same model as yours. I am going to split the flow from the tank between the skimmer and sump and use a ball valve to get the proper flow rate to the skimmer, and I know how to plumb it. I...
Thanks Sam for coming all the way down here and spending the time trying to defeat the beast with me. Well, we put out a great effort, but unfortunately, a one ounce fish defeated us. He is still having a grand ole time going back and forth between nems. I guess we could have used Bill Murray...
I debated getting this guy as I wasn't sure if he would pick on any corals. I have had him for about 4 weeks and so far he hasn't touched any. The photo below doesn't do him justice. He is beautiful.

I got mine from Ralph a couple of months ago. I cut back to one feeding a week cause he is getting too big. He is beautiful. The only negative is that his favorite hobby is stinging corals.
