I don't know, my nano has been really easy. I think the deep sand bed has helped to keep it very stable. It is a 5 gallon with 18 watts over it. I think a ten is fine to start as long as you change the water once a month or so.
A fresh water dip only cures parasites on the surface of the fish. Most parasite treatments take awhile. I would check with Dr Jim or follow his qt method to treat it.
A pc bulb should be fine. I have kept a few sps under a 18watt pc light and they did ok. I think water quality is more important. You would probably be ok with no lights for three days. But I would just use what you have. Reefs don't always have light everyday.
I would think your fish is probably stressed in that small of a tank. I would use your current tank as the QT and buy a bigger one if you want to keep the larger fish. 75-90 gallon or preferably a 125. I have a sailfin in a 75 and he is doing well but they can grow to be very large (10+") and he...
Heat doesn't equal light output. The heat is a byproduct of the design.
With MH bulbs the heat comes from the filaments burning very hot and exciting the gases in the bulb. In fluorescent bulbs the gases are excited by electrified mercury vapor which reacts with the gases in the bulb to...
If you had any way to qt him, he may have a gill parasite or some sort. It isn't normal to have that kind of behavior and he is obviously sick. I can't imagine the oxygen leaving the water that fast that he would struggle like that.
You would want to make something that holds the switch at the bottom. It is nice because your pump won't run dry. Also set an alarm for the low float in the refill and it will make it easy to know when to fill it.
Glad you got it ok. I hope it works out for you.
The home centers carry chinese or lasco fittings and not a huge stock of pressure fittings or the larger stuff.
A word to the wise, with unions it is important to buy a brand that you can get replacement orings for. If not and it leaks when you...
That has to do with the relay in the pc4. Outlets 1 and 4 are different. I would also make sure that you have the head unit programmed correctly. It took me a few tries until I got it right.
It is a little tricky getting the controller right. I would suggest buying a second switch (and maybe a third) that would be normally closed so if the tank floods it will kill the circuit.
This was from the DA forum. Basically in order to turn on it would have to have all three switches...
after we just did that group buy from reefcleaners I was really happy with the amount of snails I got. I ordered fifty and he sent over 100 in the bag. I would go with them, just make sure you get it shipped during the week.
Running carbon for a few days will take any toxins out of the water that may have been released from a die off or something like an air freshner. Just thought it might help.
Re: Ricwilli's 210 build
Pascal's law if you want to look it up. When you hold your finger over the end you are increasing the velocity of the fluid, the pressure would still be the same. The pipe sizes affect head loss, not pressure. I don't want to highjack ricwilli's thread so I will leave...
Yeah that is what I thought. Since the magnet is holding the relay off. Most heaters I think have digital controllers so you might not have this issue with other brands.
