Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.
Rad. Post how it goes. I am definitely interested and whenever I upgrade to a large tank I'll probably do it if it works well for you.
I don't know about his, but mine already made babies!
And that loose one got "lost" in my tank and it popped up just recently in the back corner in the sand where it is now calling home. It's gotten HUGE already.
Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.
No, but I thought of it when I read your tank and I would think it could work pretty well. Never tried it myself!
From the sounds of it, it seems like velvet to me. Silent, quick killer. Everything dead before you knew it. Definitely seems like velvet.
I'm sure the SPS corals are stressing a bit because of ammonia build-up, though, and not from what caused the fish deaths.
Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.
You COULD have just a few pieces of egg-crate where the rock actually is and let the rest of the tank be without it. That way, you get the best of both worlds.
If your tank is a consistent temperature in the mid 80s, it shouldn't be a problem hitting 87. But like you said, if you're tank is jumping from 81-87 over a short period of time, I'm pretty sure you'd see some problems.
My tank is consistently around the mid 80s and I've seen nothing but...
85 is not a temperature to be totally seriously worried about.
My tank is constantly 85. The acros and other SPS love it. In areas like the Red Sea, the temperature can go up to 87.
I've never had an issue with temperatures in the 83-85 range where a lot of people freak out about.
They like to have their base submerged in the sand. Really, being on the rocks will likely kill it in a few weeks/months. They absolutely cannot tolerate their flesh scraping against rocks, which is why placing it on the rock wall is not a great idea. I see it done that way a lot and 99% of the...
Their 24" 8x24 light set-up looks like just what I want. I kinda want to ditch the HQI set-up I have now since it adds so much heat to the tank and the power bill is definitely being effected by it!
