Re: AEFW are these them?!? Treatment adive?!
Iodine will NOT work on them, and water changes will not affect them. Syphon them out by hand, as many as possible, and then use Flatworm Exit as Phyllis suggetsed. You want to syphon them precisely because of their toxicity.
What I call monti is Montipora capricornus (often called cap), and the elkhorn is Montipora hirisuta . They are both in the same family and they require very similar conditions (light, flow, etc), so whatever works for elkhorn will work for cap as well. Give cap a bit of time to stabilize and...
Come by for a few more frags of Kenya tree. I still owe you 10$ :)
If the Monti dies off completely, i will give you another frag. Is it turning white all over, on the edges or where it is in contact with the rock? It could be hurt from the "mounting" (if you pressed it with the finger or it is...
I seriously doubt that is true in general case, unless you are feeding them continuously throughout the day, or the small amount of food are left at the same spot. It is definitively the component, but the location of the fish is completely species specific. Predator/prey relationships, source...
:)
I never liked any of her titles, and this one is so Agatha Christie ("The Hollow" and fifty other titles with Death in it). But since her books are over 500 pages, I forgive her. ;D I guess that with the rise of her fame and such exuberant expectations of her books, she tries to hide any...
This is going to be really a hot toppic ;) . By the time I typed my reply 5 other posts rushed in :)
And while I was typing this reefdrumz replied ;D, so it is 6
Wait, you are going to see the move and then read the book ??? ??? Way wrong way to do things. :(
Isn't the release tomorrow (13th) ? Somehow, for some reason, I liked the order of Phoenix the least of all books. It portrayed Harry in worst possible ways - idiotic spoiled brat, so that I almost...
Concern is not about the shock in reduction of nitrates but about the (potential) shock due to the change of all other "healthy" parameters - salinity, pH, alkalinity, iodine levels, Ca levels etc.
If you follow his logic, why stop with initial 80%, why not take out 95% or even 99% of water? It...
This will also improve skimmer's performance because it will ensure that skimmer will not take in the water that is already skimmed - intake and output will be in two different chambers.
Since no one seem to have answered your question about the worm, and based on not so great pic, in all probability that is just a plain bristleworm - a good thing in general.
As for the nitrogen cycle, the way I see it, it is not so much if the cycle will die or live, as much of how much of...
My Yellow tang worked like a real pig on hair algae. It scrapped them so clean that it scrapped the pieces of the rock surface. It literally shaves the rocks themselves. The Naso tang, I had, would eat them only if no other fresh algae (sargasum or caulerpa) was not available but would still eat...
Sure no problem, I have more then 10 branches of kenya tree lying at the bottom of the tank. I can probably scrap you 4-5 frags of green polyps as well.
:P
If I manage to come, I will probably frag you some tomatoes from my garden into a nice salad :)
Is the surface really that calm (second pic) or did you turn off your pump? If I am reading your (first) pic correctly, and that is that the the middle pipe is your outflow from the sump, the left baffle is open at the bottom and your skimmer is taking and returning the water in the left...
Notice that very strong flow, strong change in the water flow or anything touching it will result in its protective deflating and shrinking. In such state it can't optimally get nutrients and light and its growth will be hampered. As for what kind of touching will do that, anything can suffice...
Anything more then TWO rotation per DAY (or more precisely one per lighting period) will not mimic natural. Problem is that, from the pics of his setup, this is not what happens - the whole surfaces is pretty much uniformly illuminated all the time, so, he is not mimicking anything.
As for...
:)
Personally, I wouldn't call it really a nano. The system is not a nano. The logic of calling it nano system would be the same as if I called the single rock I have in the corner of my tank a nano system. There would be no real difference from coral's point of view ;)
If this is a refugium, you don't need too much flow, specially since this looks like DSB fuge. As for algae growing, from the picture it doesn't look too bad - they simply seem concentrated where the light is. Use the growth of this algae as an indicator of your water quality. If it grows too...
You could use PVC piping, which was used in any rockwork support I have seen. Much cheaper, available and easier to use. If you still want acrylic rods, and you are close to NYC, there is a store on a Canal street that sells that stuff.
