ok this is my planned lighting cycle. keep in mind that my tank is located in the basement so there is no natural light to take into consideration.

I am looking for some advice about the lighting cycle for my refugium. I have a 55g refugium that is soon to contain a live sand bed, some live rock (about 50lbs) and some macro-algae. i have a 4x65w lighting fixture on two seperate ballasts. 2 bulbs are atinics, the others two are 50/50. i have...
As you can see, the MRC-2 is skimming!
just need to get a longer drainage hose!
Also, finally got my Fluval FX5 Canister Filter yesterday. I am running SecChem Matrix Carbon & Kent Phosphate Sponge in it. No bio media or sponges.
I am having a bit of a brown algae/diatom outbreak though...
good! i was considering putting a 45 degree elbow on the return just about at the water level. i will be getting the pump tomorrow and then i can finish the plumbing. and then i can make any small changes if need be.

thanks guys!
i certainly could do as suggested and remove the skimmer from the sump. however, what would the benefit of doing so? it fits perfectly in the sump, and its 'out-of-the-way' in the sump. but i am always to make changes if it would help my system.
There has been quite a few changes since the start of this project, here is the current/projected stats-
180g Display Tank overflowing into a 55g Sump w/ a Mag Drive 950 Return Pump
55g Refugium overflowing in to the same 55g Sump w/ a Mag Drive 700 Return Pump

Just picked up a brand new MCR-2 skimmer. two problems- the water line of my sump is about 3 inches higher than the air intake knob on the skimmer. i made a skimmer stand out of a plastic cutting boards 4 pieces of PVC. The other problem is I do not have a pump for it. I just returned 2 Mag-18's...
