Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I myself wouldn't glue PVC pipe together without using the purple primer. When I sold my house last year I failed inspection on my house because of that. It didn't matter if primer was used or not because it couldn't be seen = FAILURE.
Lucky for me it was only aquarium pipe so I just ripped it...
Those are really good prices on PVC bulkheads in that link but somebody needs to proof read the site "bottem side and femail thread". :)
I tried finding clear primer but haven't been able to find it at Lowes or HD. Probably need to get it at a real plumbing store.
Where do you normally find...
I believe the proper way to do it is to use a rubber coupling. You slide it down the PVC pipe and then insert the PVC into the bulkhead. Then slide the coupling over the bulkhead and tighten the two fasteners.
If you intend to glue it anyway. :) Rough up the inside of the bulkhead and the PVC...
Are you talking specifically about glueing the black bulkheads to white PVC?
If so NO you do not glue them. They aren't supposed to be glued and are made of different materials then PVC. Some people glue them and never run into a problem but others have problems doing this. You should never...
Talk about being "tunnel visioned". I'm in the pipe isles way more then I want to be and have never seen it. When I make a run there today it will probably reach out and slap me silly. :)

I'm not sure I'm "sold" on LEDs yet. I've been reading where people are starting to notice pinhole burn marks on some coral. It seems like the light beam isn't diffused enough at the top of the tank.
Anyone else reading anything about this yet?

The crushed coral in itself won't cause any problems but because it is so big a lot of stuff gets caught between the crushed coral instead of getting filter out (IE skimmer). Then it "rots" and goes through the ammonia/nitrogen cycle and ends up as nitrates and phosphates in your tank.

Don't let the "rare" part in that description fool you. It's just a Watermelon Chalice and while not as common as other Chalices, it is not worth $200+ for a frag. Maybe $50-$60. That thing is priced 2x higher then Sunset frags. :)

I'm now doing this with different lights (actinics and PCs) but so far I leave the halides on. I'm about to do the same thing with moonlight intensity based on info I pull from current Fiji weather conditions using an X10 dimmer.

I've spanked both of my kids in public and my son right in front of a 3 police officers at a street fare. A younger women (late 20s) had an issue with it and ran over to the police officers to make sure they saw me "abuse" my child. One police officer without hesitation told her I had a right to...
How about leaving it with somebody from the club here? Do you know anyone close to you on here? That's got to be a better option then a friend or a parent that doesn't know anything about reefs.

Hey if you have any Zoas (if not get one) in the tank you wouldn't be lying. You could tell your niece that some of the corals in your tank can release very powerful toxins, the "most powerful organic toxins known to man" and you wouldn't want anything to happen to her daughter..., so she needs...
AnDom1's advice is right on the money IMHO. I'd only make one adjustment. To me how often brownouts have happened in the past while important isn't the "be all" criteria. What I'd also factor in is the cost to replace corals and fish if lost. The more cost to replace the better ROI the...
If it's only an inch or two of sand there shouldn't be any problem moving the sand IMHO. It's when you start getting into deep sand beds that you need to take precautions.
I moved a doctors tank with a 6" sand bed via trashcans. The bottom layers were pretty dark but full of critters so he...
Here's a recent thread about moving that has some good information in it.

Give that a read and see if it has you covered. If not ask away with any questions you might have.
