Looking for Beta Testers with low pH problems or Kalk drip users

Speaking of alkalinity tests. I've got a few different brands of test kits for alkalinity. They all seem to test within 1dKH of each other which is close enough. The test kit I use the most is the cheap API KH test (falls about in the middle of test results). It's super easy. Fill test tube...

I think Candi covered everything extremely well. godiver, how deep is your current sand bed and how old is it? Carlo

    film on water

Seems to be lots of good questions and suggestions here so far. Just for clarification (correct me if I'm wrong). You have an overflow box in the tank with siphon tubes The overflow box feeds your sump You have a skimmer sitting in your sump A pump sits in the sump and pushes the water back...

    Green hair algae

That pic cracks me up. Good point about removing what you can by hand. Carlo

    Green hair algae

Get to the source of your problem and reduce phosphates in the tank. If you have hair algae growing then you have way too much phosphates in the system. Reduce those and problematic algaes will be gone. Carlo

Caleurpa Does it help or not

Directly to the point: RonnieB1089 yes caleurpa can reduce phosphates and nitrates pretty quickly in a refugium. Don't put it directly in a sump (compartment with return pump) or directly in the display however. If you use it keep lights on that area 24/7 so it has a much lower chance of going...

Caleurpa Does it help or not

mladencovic, I pretty much agree with what you said. I was pretty brief for a change but I'll clarify my previous post somewhat. Toxicity of macro algae is dependant on species and why I said "many" and not "all". If you know what you are growing and plan on recycling then it might be fine to...

Caleurpa Does it help or not

I wouldn't recommend using caleurpa at all because if it goes sexual it will cause you all kinds of grief. He's a small article that goes into detail about it. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/nftt/index.php. If you do in fact choose to use caleaupa then try and get Caulerpa Raecmosa...

    Cayars New Tank

Actually a dolphin is a mammal and not a fish. It's warm blooded like us and can tolerate different temperatures. The common dolphin for example can live in anything from icy waters to temperate waters as long as the change is natural. They develop blubber to aid with cold waters and loose it...

    Cayars New Tank

Anyone know where to get a dolphin for my 25,000 gallon outdoor pond? :) It's actually pretty easy to convert a swimming pool over to saltwater but you need to rely heavily on ozone and UV instead of chemicals if you want to keep living things in there. I've got a pretty big heat exchanger...

    Cayars New Tank

Very true, in my head I was thinking of making the walls say 4 to 6" taller then the water level with perforated holes for the water to flow through. The more I think about it, it would not be a good idea and probably wouldn't look to good either. It was a "thought in passing". The indoor pond...

Looking for Beta Testers with low pH problems or Kalk drip users

Hehe, I actually thought you might have been the first to jump on this. :) I've got a few people lined up for the fist set of tests but could still use a few more. They'll just have to wait for me to build the 2nd batch of prototypes. It'll be nice to try different sizes on different tanks to...

    Cayars New Tank

I read that whole thread also and while it is surely a nice tank and setup I don't think the ray belongs in a reef tank period regardless of how big it is. There is just to much rock and sharp edges for it to get hurt on. From everything I've read they need 2 times their disc width and about 10...

    Cayars New Tank

No, the tank is not covered but I could pretty easily put a cover on it. I never gave a thought to it being a jumper. I don't recall Adventure Aquarium ever having any type of top/lids on any of the stingray tanks, even the 75g QT tanks they used for them. Granted that doesn't make it right, but...

    Cayars New Tank

I've always loved rays myself but they have taken on new meaning for my family this year. Right before my mother got sick, hospitalized and passed on this year I talked her in to going to Adventure Aquarium. My dad had just gotten her one of those electric scooter/wheel chair thingies so she...

    Cayars New Tank

Picked up another dozen "fish" today to fill my QT Tanks. :) Here's the "prize" of the group. Blue Spotted Stingray - It's about a foot long and the disc is about 6" round. I also picked up a slightly smaller Cortez Stingray but the 2 bags got a hole in them and he didn't make the trip home...

Looking for Beta Testers with low pH problems or Kalk drip users

Hello everyone, I'm looking for a few beta testers of a "product" I've been working on. This is actually the first of several things/projects that I'm looking for beta testers. To the best of my knowledge there is no product of it's kind on the market. I don't want to go into details before...

    PH Levels

Dave go back and read the section in that article under "Alkalinity Supplements": "In a reef tank that is permitted to equilibrate its total CO2 levels with the atmosphere, these additions (bicarbonates, carbonates) all end up with the same final pH." "This is an important result: in seawater...
