Yep you do. The "boating license" becomes part of your drivers license. That also means if you get a DWI while on the boat from too many beers on the water you'll loose your ability to drive your car and be paying $1K per year for 3 years on insurance surchages along with the court fines and...

Can anyone tell me what this is?

oh ok got ya. I was thinking, man I wish my POS digital camera took pics as good as yours did. I almost think mine is a disposable digital. :)

    Most Sought after Corals?

Every once in a while you see someone with a wtb thread for some type of rare or highly sought after coral or frag. I'm curious, what do you guys think are the most sought after corals (SPS,LPS,Zoo,softies) for our aquariums? If you have a pic of one or a link to the coral could you post it, if...

That is not a bad picture at all. What didn't you like about it?

    Yet another fish question

I've tried it a couple of times and still only have one. :( I think if I was to ever try it again I would purchase a mated pair or else get a lfs to hold them for me a week in the same tank. If they make it a week in a 20g you have a really good chance of success.

    Material Recommendations for basic stuff

It's not really that strong in a traditional powerhead kind of way. It's not a stream like a MaxiJet. It's very broad and not really focused like other powerheads. After using them myself I'd say no it's not to much. Worse case you could always aim it to bounce off the glass on the other side of...

    Culturing Copepods

John and I were both typing a response at the same time and he got his done first (I'm to long winded). :) I only touched on the cultures previously. John brought up a good point. If you have a refugium you may not even need any cultures. I still do both myself however as I like to have the...

    Culturing Copepods

It's pretty easily. If the room they are in is "room temperature" then get rid of the heater. Pods do best in normal to darker then normal room light when doing cultures. Use want to use an airpump but the stone is optionally. I don't myself use an airstore but just have the airline tubing in...

Lions and U in the tank

Certain things like bees do bother me a great deal, I don't know if I'm still alergic to them or not but as a kid I had a few problems with different parts of my body swelling up from bee stings (not the area that was stung). I guess based on that fact I should be extra careful and definately...

Where is your Refugium in your current setup?

I've redid my plumbing a little bit and I'm happy with the outcome (for now). I have 1/2 my returns going into the refugium and 1/2 going directly to a dedicated skimmer box. The skimmer box handles about 90% of the volume hitting it with about 10% spilling over directly into the sump. The...

    Alkalinity issue, need advice!

Since you already have the waterfall in the sump I don't think an airstone is going to do anything for you since your water is already getting mixed up enough. Curious, have you tried the airstone test with water outside as mentioned in the article Camz28 posted? If so what kind of result did...

Lions and U in the tank

It pretty much sounds a lot worse then a bee sting to me. :) Guess I won't be intentionally doing that anymore. I really didn't think it was a good idea but he was so cute doing that after the "initial" accidental discovery. I could probably do it another 20 times with no problem but it only...

    Alkalinity issue, need advice!

Ahh, nano size. I don't know how the drain is configured into your sump but if possible have the water "released" above the normal sump water line so it creates a waterfall type effect (like a HOB filter). This will help the O2 exchange. However, you may not be able to do that for several...

    lots of little snails

Just about any snail or slug you'll ever find in your tank is good. Don't worry about them. You can always move some of them from the refugium to the display tank too. Carlo

Volk23 I can't help to wonder. How much is the 30g cube going to cost you? Have you also looked at the BIO Max 34g cubes? They are the best IMHO but I also haven't looked specifically at the Finnex cubes. When you start getting into the larger high end cubes it sometimes could be more cost...

Lions and U in the tank

Yea, I think so too but don't know (or care to find out) how bad it is. It seems to me 100 times worse is a bit on the dramatic side while a little worse then a bee sting it putting it to mildly. Just guessing but I'd think 5 to 10 times worse then a bee sting would be more like it. Of course...

    Plans for my 30G Cube

Yea the Ocean Motion has the same effect as the SCWD except it uses a motor to do the work so it doesn't rob your water pressure. You can get the Ocean Motions in different configurations (2,4,6,8) outputs and can "rebuild" your current model to more outputs by changing the disk inside it. You...

    Trace Element Addition/Maintenance

I hear ya. I'm a hobby jumper too, but I tend to keep my old hobbies while picking up new ones to occupy my "free" time. At least with a reef tank you've got fish to learn about, many different types of corals to learn about, plumbing to play with and equipment selections and purchases to...
