Lions and U in the tank

Curious, how many of you have lion fish? Do you ever stick your hand in the tank or do you use "tongs" or heavy/thick gloves when working in the tank? I spaced off tonight (drinking some crown royal) and went to move a couple of rocks around and felt something on the top of my hand. I'm more...

You can hatch baby brine yourself. It's pretty easy to do.

    Trace Element Addition/Maintenance

Who are you kidding? I basically don't know you but from our brief conversations and reading your posts know your are a tinkerer like myself. Once you solve this "issue" you'll find something else to automate or "fix". :) Anyway, what I do is to have 3 separate "reserve" tanks. One is pure...

    Alkalinity issue, need advice!

Tomorrow you should be at a good range on your alk. The very next thing we want to test is your Calcium and Mag. If you don't have a Mg test kit pick one up at work or take a sample of your water to work at test it. :) If you have any other test kits run the full range of tests you have and...

Some fish agression and some white spots and some advice needed...

10 gallon tanks are fine for many/most fish. Sometimes a 20g long would be a better choice if possible for something like tangs since they swim a lot and the 20 long gives them more swimming space. Keep in mind to when doing QT you can put multiple fish in the same tanks. I've got 3 tangs in a...

    Trace Element Addition/Maintenance

RC is pretty good salt. It's available just about everywhere (unlike Tropic Marin Pro) and has a medium price tag. I'm using it exclusively right now and I'm pretty happy with it. I used to mix about 1/3 RC and 2/3 TMP to get a lower alk level because of the amount of kalk I used to have to add...

    Trace Element Addition/Maintenance

John I went down this road a while back and tried crushed coral but ended up going back to ARM media. I just sucked it up and went with a Mg supplement that I'd dose every couple of days. It was far easier overall. I will tell you however that I haven't had to dose anything to my new tanks yet...

    Plans for my 30G Cube

I wasn't happy with mine either Phyl. I found about the same pump increase requirement as you to get the same flow. I don't know about you but I found it to be quite noisy too. I'd look into a sea swirl or wavy sea instead of the scwd. I've got two of the wavy sea plus units in my main tank and...

Some fish agression and some white spots and some advice needed...

It sure sounds like ich. We were just chatting about this in another thread. While it's pretty easy to get rid of the ich on the fish themselves, getting it out of the tank is a pain as the tank needs to stay fallow (without fish) for 45 to 60 days) otherwise if it's still in the tank the fish...

    Material Recommendations for basic stuff

It's not really going to matter much for simple Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate tests. They all work about the same. I typically pick up the cheapest brand which is normally Aquarium Pharm. They usually have all these in a "Salt water pack". You can even find these at Petsmart or Petco at pretty...

Some fish agression and some white spots and some advice needed...

I'm not sure moving the rock around will work in this situation. Normally that works with a fish that has already been in the tank for a while and staked out his territory. But in this case it's the newcomer who is causing the problem.

Will my floor hold my tank?

I had a 120 (300lb rock) plus 40 gallon sump and 20 gallon refugium along with a 32 gallon brute trashcan in the middle of a 3rd floor condo not even against any walls and was fine with it. Only problem I ever had was the tube on one of my phospan reactors slipped out of the sump when I was...

Ideas for feeding Trigger while away

The downside to this for you will be that once the trigger has gotten a taste of your livestock (because he's hungry) he will most likely continue to do so even when fed properly again. How long are you going to be away for? Is there no one available that could stop by your place and feed the...

    Here we go

Those would be some type of copepods or "pods" that you see mentioned every so often here on the boards. They are good guys to have. People buy starter cultures of them for their tanks so consider yourself lucky. If you really want to see how many pods you have break out a flashlight when your...

    problem???

If the pumps in the tank are causing the top water level to move then that is helping with the O2 air exchange. I'd also think the wet/dry is helping a lot with the oxygen exchange also. So based on that maybe it's not an O2 problem. It seems as though it's related to the skimmer pump failure...
