Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I was but after talking to a couple of company's that process the food I don't rinse anymore. You're not going to wash "phosphates" away and you are really getting rid of some of the vitimins and minerals that would have been added to the water.
What I do is put a cube in a shot glass size...
That would be a good experiment but since my nitrate reactors as still "breaking" in I wouldn't be able to tell what the lower nitrates are from (reactor or less additives).
I think you made a good point on the Kent products. Here's a breakdown of the analysys of some of these (off the...
Hi Gabe,
That was part of the reason for the post. While I'm pretty sure I'm "about right". I thought it might make for good conversation and learning/tweeking for others. That's the reason I went into so much detail about my setup and list of fish/inverts/corals so others could compare their...
Nope, it's a 120 display with 40 gallon sump, 7 gallon HOB ruge and 20 gallon tank plumbed in as another fuge. I have 200 lbs of liverock in the system and 4 inches of live crushed coral. Big mistake on the coral. It looks really nice but trappes way to much stuff. I've been sucking it out...
Are you talking about the same size "ice cube" that you would put in a soft drink or are you talking about the small "cube" size that most frozen fish food comes in? If you are talking about normal size ice cubes then that's a HUGE amount of food to add to the tank at one time. I'd think it...
Hehe, I got writers cramp too. :)
Yep your right I didn't mention it. I got so involved in the details I forgot about it. I used to feed more heavy but have lightened it on the frozen food.
What I'm presently doing is feeding one cube of mysis shrimp 2 times daily. I also feed one cube of...
I've never seen a heater get hot enough that I couldn't pick it up (as long as it's in water) so it's not going to burn anything unless you run dry and I doubt your sump is going to go dry. :)
As far as the holes in the return, I usually do 2 small holes on opposite sides just in case.
Another...
I've had to take my sump out of service for close to a day while replacing it and didn't have any problems. As long as you have powerheads keeping the water moving you should be fine. If anything point a couple upwards a little to cause more surface movement to keep the O2 good in the tank...
If I don't end up moving on the same day I should be able to help you. Then I call in the favor and you can help me with my 120 move. :)
I'll be moving from Deptford to Bordentown.

How much food and nutrients?
I originally posted this on reefcentral but didn't get any responses except that the bio load is heavy. I'm quite aware of this fact and I'm also quite aware of what excess food does to your nitrates and phosphates, etc... So I don't want this to become a...

You do have phosphate and nitrate levels but they are getting used up by the cyano so you measure 0. I'd throw some type of phosphate absorber on your system to eliminate this.
Also something you can do for the short term is to break up your photo period. For example if you normally have the...
Yea, one things I'll mention is to watch out for the 120g that is 48"x18"x30".
While it's nice to have 30" of vertical viewing space it can be difficult to reach the bottom of the tank to move things around. I have long arms and it's a pain but you get used to it. The worst things however isn't...
RichT, do you still have any of the trumpet around 30 - 35 heads for $25 available? If so I'll take one or more. Let me know how many you have.
disney95, if you still have 1 or 2 left of the yellow with blue tips I'll take them (both). I'll take a birdsnets pinkish green with purple polyps. And...
I already volunteered for the November meeting: http://www.njreefers.org/forums/index.php/topic,1800.msg18406.html#msg18406
It will be in the Bordentown area which should be pretty convenient to NJ Turnpike, 295 & 195.

Reef tanks are so darn addictive!
I'm actually looking at the 8' 540g or 10' 670g Starfire tanks at http://www.aquariumsforyou.com/ShopGlassRect.html.
Depends on the room dimensions but I'm going as large as I can physically get in the room short of removing a wall (might do that anyway)...
Hey Billy,
I mentioned before (now buried) to let me know what you'd like me to bring on Sat. I can bring anything (food or drink) but prefer something I don't have to cook. :)
I posted this in the forum instead of a PM just in case you have a list of anything you want to post that people can...
Over the last couple of months the prices have been dropping a little here and a little there. They have also been getting in some nice selections.
I stop by at least every Friday and pickup a few hundred bucks worth of corals and whatnot. Last week I did my normal Friday night stop by and...
