Did you get your sump and skimmer on line yet? A good skimmer will go a long way in helping to reduce your unwanted nutrinets, i.e. NO3, PO4. A refugium is another plus. I would also recommend you get some good test kits.

pH is fine, it will change throughout the day, so make sure when you check it that you do it at the same time of day. What are you using to measure PO4? read, "What is the Acceptable pH Range for Reed Aquaria" in this article: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-09/rhf/index.php PO4 here...
