I tried one once, and it seemed to be doing great. Then one day my Blue Devil's decided it was a good place to dig holes around and kept covering it with sand. I tried to clean it off with a turkey baster, but ultimately it just retracted and died.

Do you have any internal pumps that could be running hot? What kind of thermometer are you using? You might want to check its accuracy. Is there anyplace you could install a fan?
I might check some other things first, like your heater. What do you have in it that would cause it to get warm? I would check all those things before investing in a chiller and the expense to run it.
