    Kessil LED's

I've decided on two Blueline 120W VHO LED's. My local LFS Aquarium Center in Blackwood just redid their coral tanks with this fixture a few months ago. The owner says that these will be more that enough for my 180.

    Kessil LED's

I may buy one to try. My research indicates that this is a well made product from a reputable company. My main concern is the spread of the light. The manufacturer is recommending it be place 1 to 2 feet above the water. It appears to be more of a spot light design rather than a flood light...

    Kessil LED's

No, I've got very little info, which is why I posted here, to see if anyone had them, and what came in the box, and what else might be needed.

    Kessil LED's

Yeah, but it's 150W at half the price and the PS is built into the unit, but not dimmable.

    DIY chiller

Add a little plastic canvas/lighting and you could have a dual purpose chiller/algae scrubber.

Welcome To NJRC! Take a minute to introduce yourself

I think for most of us here the hobby has been an evolution over time, at least for me it has. I don't think it would be a problem to short circuit that evolution and go right into a SW tank. But, I think it would be best to start with something relatively small, no bigger than a 55, and just do...

    Thinking of a new tank

I'm not a proponent of having to dial back the flow of a return pump when you can get a pump that will maximize the return flow without the addition of other plumbing fixtures, to say nothing about the wasted energy. There are always a few factors to consider when setting up your return, but the...

    problem with filter sock holder...

I bought the one BRS sells and it seems to be OK. I've had it for about 6 months and haven't lost a sock yet. I'm using the mesh type sock instead of the felt though.

    Getting parameters in check

I keep about 25 gal. in the can, so it's not too full. I use about 10 gal. per week and just top off the brute with new water and then add the appropriate amount of salt. About every two months I'll use it all and then thoroughly clean the can and usually run the pumps in a little vinegar for a...

    Getting parameters in check

I wouldn't drive yourself crazy trying to make everything pinpoint perfect. All your parameters, although a couple are a tad low, look OK, and with water changes using a good reef type salt mix, will gradually come up. You don't seem to have much of a load that will need much Ca and Alk right...
